Instrument cluster LED's

Does anyone have LED's in their 2nd gen cluster?  If so could you post some pics if you have them?  I understand you can now get LED's that dim so I may do that small mod while my cluster is out.

They do dim, they are just a direct swap for the old bulbs.  You need 2 types as the original dash uses 2 types.

Mine are white, with the color coming from the covers built into the dash.

Looks great. What bulbs, expensive?

resq302

I agree.  Those factory light bulbs were horrible.  I could never see half of the speedometer or the last pod which I think was the ammeter?  Looks like those light up the dash nicely.  Perfect timing since I have to take my cluster apart anyway to get the coolant temp gauge calibrated.

Very nice!  I'm going to give those a shot.

It's funny, although my blue lenses seem to be just fine, the gauges light up in an off white, no blue at all.

Thanks for posting...I've heard LED's are hit-and-miss on a lot of areas like taillights

ODZKing

Hmm, I need BA9 (#57) and the ones that seem to be bright enough are too long.
I'll keep looking.

LEDs are more "spot" lighting than the bulbs used in tail lights.  They may be brighter, but the area that brightness is visible over is different.  This can cause problems as your brake lights may not be visible from some important angles.  If you do replace the external lights on the vehicle you should make sure they can be seen through a wide variety of angles not just dead on from behind.

For the internal lights, this is less than an issue as it pretty much only matters if the driver is able to see them.

The tach should, soon as I saw yours and the one in the xtreme lee I knew that was the one I had to get. I had another that the needle didn't line up and was pushed an inch further back than the speedo so it always looked out of place. This one is way nicer and has a cleaner look.

Also did my bulbs in a deep blue for a while but switched back to the white. Been thinking maybe to pull the blue lenses to see how it looks all super white but I'm pretty happy with it right now with the light blue tint.

I actually pulled all the blue lenses and used the led bulbs and looks kicks ass
The only part I don't like is the voltage gauge doenst get enough light
So I added another bulb to it, to get more balanced look

I also changed the shifter light as well (automatic )
And the light at the climate controls as well
Illumination Is key most people miss the importance

Love the look

Yeah I switched over every bulb in the car also to brighten everything up. Fairly cheap upgrade that made a world of difference.

Mines the same with the voltage gauge, one side just doesn't have the same intensity as the other. Without the lenses did you use a larger bulb? I'm maxed out right now with the lenses in.

You have a pic of the bulbs on without the blue covers?

I have to take a pic with the bulbs in
I did it so long ago (few years ) I gotta either dig up a pic or take new ones

I made another hole and added a led bulb to the voltage guage

One upgrade I want to do is change the speedo to 200mph
And add a shift light inside the gauge

So many ideas!!

Guys if you're in picture taking mode, I would love to see more, of the whole interior in fact.  I am on the fence which to get and I need to see more before I can make that call.  I really would like to have pulled that cluster for the last time.  At least for a while to come.  I rebuilt my a/c controls but have not installed them and I need to pull the console to install all the electronic gadgets so this is the time to do all the lighting.  Dang I just remembered I still need a new ignition light!

I will try to get some new shots. Every bulb in my car has been swapped over and makes the interior much brighter. Don't know if it will show up well in photos but I will see what I can get.

Here are some full pics of the interior with the lights on. I used these bulbs everywhere on the car: gauges, dome, a/c controls, map, license plate, reverse lights, trunk, and anywhere else a standard bulb was. Also the camera doesn't catch how soft these bulbs are, it looks real bright in the pics but in person they are not as blinding as the pics show. Also all the dash bulbs can be dimmed. I use an aftermarket stereo so no bulbs in the stock one but eventually I will have the original rebuilt with modern guts. Also console and key lights are not hooked up but all have the same style led bulbs.

Thanks buddy!     You have convinced me to go that route and it's good timing with the work I'm doing already.  The cluster is sitting right next to me.   :icon_smile_big:

I see the a/c buttons get that blue light as well but I don't recall the light bar having those blue shades.  Do you have blue LEDs in there or is it a trick of the light?

The "bar" I bought for my 70 has blue filters in it.  :scratchchin: Can you give us a breakdown/count for what is needed?

Oh that's right, it's not individual caps for the bulbs, it's the whole length.
