I did a search of the archives a bit and believe I have a 66 direct drive starter  (4sp hemi)

The number on the snout casting is 2642443 and the number on the barrel is 2642445.

I went to a starter repair place to order windings for the barrel and was told that someone other than chrysler stamped the number on the barrel. He said they came with a sticker with the number not number stamps.

My question is--Did he just make a blanket statement that the barrels were not stamped?  Or is he just unfamiliar with one of chryslers many oddities?

Ghoste

He's wrong, they very much were stamped and that number is correct for the earlier Hemi starter.
