I've always wondered why some of the '70 Chargers have an "unusual" panel on the door where the '68 & '69 dual imprints are, but others don't. Can anyone shed some light on that please?
Thanks

Jeff

If you are refering to the door "scoops" which I think you are I believe only the RT's had these. Regular Chargers did not have the door scoops.

Baldwinvette77

Yup R/T door scoops, some people like em, some people hate them, and then their people like me who just think their ok, but theirs no "in-between"  :coolgleamA:

Ghoste

I used to not like them but over time they grew on me.  How would you define an "in between" on them?

Purists....while they hate the hell outta them, they will put them back simply because the build sheet says so.

Ghoste

I guess that's the line I'd have to go stand in then.  :P

fy469rtse

I like them , can't wait for the 70 to get that stage , can't wait for another piece of hardware on the door to make wind noise as I drive along,( top gutter and quarter vent window) as well .

MxRacer855

I've never been a big fan of them. Although I think they look alright on a select few cars. But I would try to avoid them. I know it's just opinion and preference. Are they just for aesthetics?

Ghoste

Yep, that's all they are just ornamentation.

never really been keen on them ,  if I was restoring a 70 charger R/T would leave the door scoops off  :scratchchin: or get another set of doors & bolt them on ,  restore the original scooped doors paint them up etc  & store them just incase type thing   :scratchchin:  & if it was coded a deck lid spoiler , would leave that off too  :yesnod: :Twocents:

You can add a luggage rack to the list too. However, E bodies & 71 B bodys look good with decklid spoilers, but the 1970 B-bodies don't.

Me too, I wouldn't have ordered a luggage rack or spoiler back in the day but if I found a car now that was coded for them I would leave them on.

fy469rtse

Damn bill ghoste, you had to say that didn't you, my 70 is optioned for luggage rack on boot, have it and the holes, have left them in , but also painted a second boot lid just in case, 70 rt with that on the back WTF was the original owner thinking, if I were going to take notice of any body's opinions it would be you two, oh and Ron for engines, John for transmissions , hehe don't want anyone to feel left out

  that's true !!
luggage rack on a second generation  :eek2:  rare options / color combos etc  , rare don't always look good imo    :Twocents:
would deffo leave the luggage rack off if mine was coded for one !   not keen on third generations & E-bodies with deck lid spoilers either , although like the AAR / T/A rear spoiler  :yesnod:

My reply was aimed at the door scoop question.
Luggage racks and go-wing spoilers, hmmm...  :scratchchin:
Well, I think that all depends on the rest of the car. This car looks pretty bad a$$ with a luggage rack.  :yesnod:

Yeah that looks good on there.  Like I say I wouldn't have ordered one new but I wouldn't strip it off of a car I bought now.

Ghoste

And a period antenna ball.  ;)

door scoops and rear spoilers are the reason that I like 70 's , seems you either love em or hate em . dig luggage racks to  :Twocents:

MxRacer855

I can see the "love 'em or hate 'em" logic now.. I wouldn't be caught dead in a car with a luggage rack. But I agree to disagree and respect other opinions. I'm sure we can all find radical things on Chargers in common with one another and in disagreement with others.
I thought that people with '70's sporting doors without the scoops just got them off of '68's and '69's... I didn't realize that was an R/T option. In that case, I think it definitely adds something to the car. Just like the "Hemi" silver badge on the doors of the Hemi Chargers.

Yup.  Even if I had a '70 R/T I would take them off because I don't like the scoops at all; those dual impressions on the doors are one of the defining characteristics of the 2nd Gen Charger...

ws23rt

I like them.  They are not very intrusive on the body lines and help set the 70 aside from the 68-69.

This reminds me of the side scoops on the rear quarter of the coronet body style. Some like em some don't. But if the car came with them my pref. is to keep them.  (and I did).

I Wonder if they actually vented --would people be more likely to keep them?  Sorta like hood scoops that don't scoop. :hah:

BTW I recall reading somewhere that Dodge decided not to offer a fresh air hood for the charger because of the affect it would have on the clean style they had. :shruggy:  ( Hope someone has a pic. of a 68-69 charger with hood scoops)

See I absolutely LOVE six-pack hood scoops on '68-'70 Chargers. My girlfriend on the other hand thinks just that... that they would take away from that clean, sleek look the Charger has. As much as I value and respect her opinion, I might have to go with that hood scoop one of these days!  :2thumbs:
