Sitting in the 67 today and doing some work on it and it struck me that old Mopars share a similar smell that is different from old Fords or old whatever.  No surprise since they used their own materials and adhesives and so forth but I don't know that I notice it in newer cars now.
Anyone else love that old Mopar smell?

haha, I thought I was the only one that loves that smell!! I think its a combination of old insulation material in the headliner, etc, but we did a 70 Dart down to the shell and it still smells like it :)

I know my car will still retain some of that vintage smell even though I went down to a shell, the aftermarket insulation for the headliner didnt quite cover every inch of the roof, so I cut some of my old insulation and glued that in too, and that stuff really stinks like old Mopar

I too love that scent! Every time I sit in my 69 Charger(even though it's mostly torn apart) it brings back memories of my Dads 69 Sport Satellite and the smell. It's funny to me that they do have their own smell!

Strange to bring that up.  I like it too.  So much I remember asking my dad what made it -

His hypothesis - horse hair in the seat stuffing.

Any idea what it really is? Or is it really  :horse:

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Well its not horsehair.  ;)
Just a combination of the materials used.  Vinyls, carpet, adhesives etc.

Would you boys like to fight over my stock insulation and seat foams?   :nana:

J. C. Whitney used to sell an aerosol can of something called NU-Car Smell.   I laughed when I saw it in the catalog.  I have no idea what was in it or what is smelled like.

Ghoste

Worked at a dealership once that used that stuff.  It didn't smell like a new car to me.

:2thumbs:

Mine still has it.   I have had to replace a lot of it, but the scent is still there.

I also love the shift whine of the transmission.
