1971 Charger 500 - Turn Signal Wiring Harness

I'm having issues with the brake lights not working on my 1971 Charger, so after establishing that the bulbs and wiring to the back are good and the pedal switch is good, I'm replacing the turn signal wiring harness in the steering column. I notice that the replacement switch has a few differences though. Before I put it in, I thought maybe I'd consult you guys and see if this is indeed the right switch. So the two differences are:

First pic: The metal retaining ring on the new harness (left) has two prongs at the top that the old one (right) doesn't have. What are these meant to go to? http://i.imgur.com/9tGY2Fv.jpg


Second/Third pic: The new harness has an extra wiring plug that the old one doesn't, and I can't for the life of me figure out what it's meant to go to >_<

Hi,

That extra three wire connector is for cornering lamps on the big C body cars. You won't connect it for your car. If this is a Mopar replacement switch they went through several superceded versions from the original switch you have. It should fit. The two prongs look like they replace the roller contact originally used for the horn switch contact. If you search through this section you will find a more detailed discussion on these turn signal switches.

The new switch actually has a pushpin to replace the roller, so I'm not really sure what the tabs on the new retaining ring are for. I'm thinking I might just refurbish the old retaining ring and use it instead though, because it's about twice as thick as the new one and looks to be in fine condition.
