Can someone help me with decoding the fender tag off my 68 Charger? The ones online don't get everything  decoded. Thanks for the help.

Here is a shot from the back side.

Have you used Jim Shines decoder? http://www.jimshine.com/tag%20info/68tagdecode.htm  It should get you all the info you'll need.  :2thumbs: And if not I'll help later. Right now football is coming on....   ;)

Here is my decode (with help from Jim Shines site).

From the vin number:
XS29 - Charger/Special , i.e., R/T
L8 - 440 4-bbl HP engine
B - Built at the Hamtramct palnt
246243 - unique vin number

From the fender tag, bottom to top, left to right:
XS29 - Charger Premium, i.e., R/T
83 - 440 4-bbl HP
5 - 3-speed automatic
44 - F70x14 redlines steel belted
C29 - Scheduled build date Dec 29, 1967
067228 - S.O. (shipping order) number (unique to the year and model)
2-5 = drip rail moldings
3-0 = body belt moldings
7-8 = wheel lip moldings
AX-4 = 3.23 ratio (open diff)
"TRM" which is short for trim. It is the interior codes for the trim, seats, and color.
Under T (this is the trim code) C=Charger
Under R (this is the seat code) 6=Vinyl Seats
Under M (this is the interior colors) D=white and green
"PNT" , which is short for paint. This tells us the color of the car and if it is two tone paint or monotone. The letter or number under "P" designates the color of the roof. The second letter/number under "N" is the body color. And you will either see a 1 or a 2 under the "T" . The 1 designates monotone paint and the 2 designates two tone paint.
Under P, G - Racing Green metallic
Under N, G - Racing Green metallic
Under T, 1-monotone paint
U-W- upper door frame white
S-7 - White Transverse Stripe
H-1 = power brakes
R-1 = AM radio
Y-7 = white vinyl top
a-6 = console
b-4 = bucket seats
h-7 = fender/hood mounted turn signal indicators
m-6 = driver's outside remote operated mirror

Thank you very much. The 68 tag is very different from the third gen stuff I'm used to.

It's unfortunate the car is missing a lot of parts,  we are going to build it the way we like.
