Gauges dim when dimmer rolled up

Hello, 1968 Charger, I rebuild the cluster, used an RTE voltage limiter, all looks great,
gauges all reading as should. Turn on the lights and watch the gauges all drop in unison, if I roll the dimmer to off position the gauges all rise to correct reading.
If I roll the dimmer up to brighten gauge cluster lights the gauges drop.
Has anyone seen this?
If so do you have a repair or a path you can direct me down?
Thanks.

I haven't seen it in an old Dodge but I did see it once in an old Jeep.  I think your dimmer might have alot of corrosion on the rheostat portion.

sounds like the cluster is not grounded good. paint on mounting points make for a bad ground

yea...you lost a ground somewhere...maybe a loose pin on circuit board also

I'll give the grounding another shot.
I had thought it might be a ground earlier and made a strap from the cluster housing to Firewall.
For the switch I tried a second one and had same results but it was an older worn switch.
I will give it another shot in the morn.
Thanks

if the circuit board in not getting a good ground on the housing that could be the problem.
