My original 440 4-speed carb is going to need to be re-built, this time with new bushings at the throttle-body piviots. Can anybody reccomend a good shop or person to do this?

Yes I can. Call Cliff Ruggles at Cliffs High Performance. Last winter I decided to get back to original for the complete fuel system on my -68 R/T. I found a date correct 4429S core so I went for that. I got a tip from my brother about this guy Cliff who should be good rebuilding carbs. I contacted him and apparently he is mostly rebuilding Quadrajets these days, but he gladly accepted to rebuild a Carter carb too. I sent the 4429S to his shop, had to wait for a few months since he had a long line of carbs waiting for rebuild. :)

As this was a complete rebuild, all parts needed to be blasted and replated. He did a very good job in my opinion, he also ran the carb on his test motor and did a basic tuning.

After I got the carb back, I got a set of correct hard lines (with return line), a correct fuel pump and a vapor separator. After running this stock setup for a year now I couldn't be more pleased. The car runs strong, never stalls, hot or cold does not matter. Idling is dead stable. Starts everytime without any hesitation. Exactly what I was aiming for. I would without a doubt send any carb to Cliff for a rebuild, very competent guy IMHO.

Here's his address:

Good luck!

Scott Smith at Harms, Inc. Here is a thread http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,90436.0.html of my 4426 carb with before and after photos. I highly recommended him.
