I'm currently rebuilding my tail lights on my '68 and am having trouble finding the main gaskets (black) that seal the housings to the tail panel. The light lenses were easy, but those are not. Maybe I'm looking up them up in the wrong field?

Any suggestions?

I bought a kit years ago. the main housing gasket was not right and looks terrible.

I do not believe there has been a better one made since.

maybe some one will chime in with better news here.

The stock ones are still attached to the housings and NOT damaged, but compressed and dry rotted. I sure hope there is a better alternative to putting them back on "as is" or buying ones that look terrible and have an even worse fit.

I think "Detroit Muscle Technologies" has them...go to their website, or find them on ebay

As far as I know there are no decent offerings to be Had in the aftermarket. Usually out lay a thin strip of w/s butyl tape.

I just checked... Detroit Muscle Technologies does NOT have them. This one's going to be tricky.  :scratchchin: :brickwall:

now that surprises me....I bet if somebody could contact them and provide a decent original one to copy, they would make them and sell to the public

It would actually be more likely to Metro or steele rubber, because It's  more like a weatherstipe rather than just a die cut foam.

the ones I bought were soft seal. they were way to thick. if you look at a picture of the package you can still see them being way to heavy.

I find a phone call to DMT more reliable than just looking on there web site for items.

My point isnt brand , its that these are moulded rubber not die cut foam. Dmt is top shelf in what they do, but not these items.

QuoteWe ARE the manufacturer! Detroit Muscle Technologies reverse engineered, laser cut, OEM style material reverse light gaskets for your 1968 Dodge Charger. These inner gray housing to taillight and reverse light lense gaskets are made from the same material as the original gaskets, 1/8" thick gray rubber foam. ALSO INCLUDED are 8 white poly donuts that seal the lense studs on the back of the housing. I am not YET making the thick black rubber housing to body gaskets. I may be making a functional equivalent soon.

they need to get busy..I bet a lot of people would buy them

I hear that. I think a phone call sometime tomorrow morning might get the ball rolling...

Not sure if the threads were here or the old site but there were several ideas on recreating these on your own. I remember one being to use the plastic covers from a 3 ring binder. Possibly and inner tube. If you have the lights it's not hard to make a pattern. I was really hoping DMT had something by now. It sounded like they were planning on it several years ago but I guess not.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
