Don't 68s normally have seats/consoles that match the carpet?

You see so many incorrect restorations that after a while you start to wonder. I didn't dissect the fender tag on this one but it seems that they should have put black carpeting in it since everything else is black. If not wouldn't the console, console carpet, seats, door panels and dash pads be the same goldish yellow as the carpet?

Poor thing's got a lazy eye on the driver side too.

Oh jeez, look at the VIN tag. ::) I normally don't like to pick cars apart but this one has got some freakish screw ups.

At the very least the console carpet should match.

That's the thing that makes it stick out like a sore thumb. But if the console carpet matched the floor carpet the contrast between it and the console shell would look wrong.

Trim code is C6X so it's supposed to be all black... carpet too.

I had seen this car in ad thumbnails but hadn't looked at it.  Too bad they futzed up so many little details.  At first glance it looks like a nice car, but those details are pretty obvious.

A few other things I notice right away:

- jack under spare, probably missing mounting hardware in trunk after floor replaced.
- is 68 door medallion supposed to be red, or red/white/blue?
- overspray in trunk, but not covering up inner quarter panels
- wires hanging down under steering column
- air cleaner seems all wrong
- painted master cylinder

Mostly I just can't believe that someone couldn't be bothered to mask off the VIN properly.  It's a dead giveaway to start looking closer at the whole car.

That's only part of it. The 'decal' is not even the proper decal. It almost looks like they printed it using a computer, cut it out and glued it on. The area around the graphics is supposed to be transparent. Let's just say it doesn't look like this original one.

That's a sad looking VIN tag (the one on the bottom) Not even close to original. I'd be running to the hills. :smilie_help:

Personally, I prefer the carpet to mach the drapes.   :2thumbs:

Carpet has got to go as it's just crying out for black!  Overall it looks like a really nice Charger, but the whole VIN Tag thing has me concerned.  And, the Air Cleaner also looks really out of place...you would think they would try and find an older one to make it at least "look right".  Also makes me think the engine is not the original.  Buyer beware.....

bet they painted the dash and did a piss poor job of trying to mask off the VIN tag

Which would make one wonder what else they did a piss poor job on. My guess is a bunch.

What a half ass attempt of restoration. I wouldn't touch that unless they gave it to me and I can restore it correctly.  :eek2:

Lucky motors indeed, you'd have to be real lucky to find a gem like that for a mere $45K....

Black or white interiors got black carpet.

Who in their right mind paints a PP1 (red) car gold??? Probably the same guy who asked for the carpet to match the body color. Of course, that fender tag has issues too so who knows what the original color was!

Other issues that stand out:
* no radiator support black out - which looks horrible on a lighter colored car
* whole tail panel is black (should only be the area within the trim)
* master cylinder is gray
* repro trunk floor that doesn't have the holes cut out
* looks like the pentastar emblem was painted body color - but it could be the camera as the color should be fairly close any way

Common mistakes that they avoided:
* engine bay is not black
* underside is not black (but it also shouldn't be completely painted)
* doors actually do have the interior color painted on the bottom!

It actually has the 68 only headlight bezels. It also has headrests which are reasonably rare for a 68.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

one would think that someone should have put the turn signal column harness wiring back up under the dash where it belongs instead of letting it hang down like a tampon string

Sometimes in the course of a restoration, certain sacrifices must be made.
