Hey all,
I bought a 440 block for replace my cracked block.
the casing on the side reads 256430-5.  Below that are the nubers 4.21.67.  So I'm pretty sure that that is the date of the casting 21 April 1967.
On the pad near the thermostat is stamped
D 440
419 HP
I have read that the HP applies to the High Performance internal amd the block is nothin special.  Any ideas on the 419?

Thanks!
Vic

4 19  = April 19th  that is the engine assembly date.   And yes D is a 68 model year engine. So, that engine was assembled April 19, 1968 for a 68 Model year car.....fairly late.  Block is a standard 440 block....they all were the same with HP or not.

Is there a VIN number anywhere on that block?

Great - Thanks. Some were stamped on the bellhousing area...some had a "normal" VIN pad on the side, and some weren't stamped at all.
