people bugging me about my charger

Yeah, I agree with the general sentiment.  I've had lots of attention when I was driving my car, almost all of it good even though sometimes annoying, but never had anyone open my car door.  That's just not acceptable.

I used my '69 as a daily driver for almost 4 years after getting it and sometimes I was in a hurry and people wanted to ask about the car.  You don't want to be rude, but sometimes people have to realize that an owner of an old car has a life too (well ya know, when not spending every waking hour working on, ordering parts for, or driving your car!    :icon_smile_big:     ).

If I wasn't in a hurry, I didn't mind BSing with people about my car.  I seem to have inherited my Dad's gift of gab, so be warned, if you stop me and ask about my car, I might keep you there for hours telling the whole story about how I got and what I've done to it.    :icon_smile_cool:

Its funny to read your experiences, people do the same thing here in Europe, even with a four door sedan  :scratchchin:.

I'm an introvert person.. so I try to avoid it as much as possible,  like others have said I also jump in and out the car as fast as possible at the gas station, and park at great distance of other vehicles and people ;D

When people are friendly I don't really mind to make a conversation if I have to, but sometimes you get these douchebags who just want to tell you about their mercedes that they once had, or like to point out every ding and scratch on your car to make them feel better.

I also learnt to keep the door of my garage closed when working on the car after someone walked in to talk to me, and knocked over a can of ATF... it was quite messy  :eek2:

I keep my doors locked in the city, and also keep the windows up, some people also like to lean into your car at the traffic lights  ;)

Where do you live? Maybe get a conceal carry permit?

One time I had my Charger parked in the driveway for several days. It was summer and nice out and I was renovating my garage at night, so I had it in the driveway. I loaned my primary vehicle to a friend that was moving assuming I could take the Charger anywhere I had to go. It was maybe 11 am and I heard voices in my driveway. I look out a window and I see a couple seedy looking guys all over my car, opening the hood, etc. I went out and confronted them and they "just wanted to look at it as their father had one". Yeah right. I made sure the garage done and it was back inside that night.

If some clown opened my door with my daughter inside, I'd be telling them to close it ,get away and be getting out out there. We don't have conceal or carry permits here, even the cops don't carry guns openly, only few have them and see in a strong box in the trunk. So we are unlikely to get car jacked but just that whole intrusion into personal space and the radar goes on high alert. Flight or fight.

My garage is visible from the road, when I used to have two cars in there if the door was up and this strange guy would be going for his daily walk, he would come over and try to come inside and telling about how he got ripped off on some old car years back. Then he said he could hear me practicing guitar  sometimes and want to bring his guitar over, then wanted me to quote some work on his mothers house whom he lived with and said it had to be cheap 'cause he has no money. Then he knocked on my door one evening with some old photos of some car he owned , maybe to prove he was a car guy and I just had to say "No, I don't care, quit bugging me, I don't want to hang with you, don't ever walk on my driveway again, F off." He was one weird guy.

I am really amazed at how many people I run into, at different places when I stop, while out for a drive in mine....who open the conversation with; "My Brothers Uncle's Sister...twice removed".... of course......Had one just like it !!
Soon followed by "The only diff was hers had a 383 HEMI" from Goober.

I have found it best in the past, when confronted with these unfortunate situations....to simply maintain my poo 'eatin grin on a blank stare.... conforming with local Automotive "Historical" Expert Information protocol....that I am being blessed with,..... then quickly spout my being late to attend a "Dentist" appointment.....which is totally lost on Goober(as he has only heard in folklore they exist), and which.... is equally befuddling to him ?

I also hate when you're in your charger and they pull up in a junker from the early 90s and all the sudden they know more about your car than you do.

It is part of owning something attractive but the attraction is indiscriminate. One thing about the charger is it brings in people that have memories triggered by the car that was a regular fixture in many lives back in the day

A Lambo , Porsche, Ferrari or the like attract attention but it's more smiles and thumbs up than a reunion with a long lost cousin.  Maybe because they never knew anyone they identify with that had one?

I always appreciate when someone likes my car but  don't like to have to be short with them.  Some act as is if we are related and have years of catching up to do :shruggy:   It comes with the car.

I think it was one of the first times, if not the first, I took the Charger to the gas station near the freeway.  Always characters there  ::).  This guy comes over and compliments the car so I thank him.  He then tells me he had one just like it, a '75 with a 440 hemi.  I hope I didn't insult him because I couldn't help but crack up.

My wife went into labor in '95 so I drove her to the Hospital in my '68 Charger, pull up to the E.R. And the orderly goes bannanas over the car.  Now the Mrs was a little stressed to say the least at that moment, boy did that poor guy get an earfull!  2 days later my son took his first ride ever in that  car.
