I need to sell this 1960 Pontiac Catalina to finance the 73 Charger project. I'm not sure if there is a big market for a mild custom Cat but I did notice a lot of Pontiac fans on another thread. So what do you think it has for a value? It has a stock 389 2bbl, factory 3-4 speed automatic, stock relatively clean interior with bench seat, slightly lowered, dual exhaust and frenched reverse lights.

Not a clue, but list it on ebay with a $3500 reserve. If it is worth more then the price will be above the reserve and if not you know what it is worth.

I'm not sure what its worth, i would try ebay as well.

something like that these days should go for at least 65oo. they are quite popular with the custom rod crowd.

That's a nice car, & I like the mild custom look quite a bit. I wouldn't go as far as saying I have wood for it since I haven't had any car ever get me that excited. Well, maybe this one girlfriend I had, she would get wild inside an old car like that, maybe that might classify it as having wood for it? :shruggy: Without the girlfriend, I have no idea what Old Pontiacz would sell for since I like Old Moparz. Now if the girl was with it, I might sell off my Charger in a second & keep the Pontiac. :D

I have a 62 Catalina myself.  The 60 is a bit different but similar.  I have watched the prices for the Catalinas skyrocket in the last few years.  They aren't like mopars in price but a few years ago you could pick them up for less than $1000 and drive them home.  I paid $800 for mine and drove it daily for 4 years with the only thing I did to make it drivable being an oil change and a vacume job.  I have only followed 62 Catalinas but if 60 and 62 have simiilar prices then your car is worth at least $6500.  It would probably sell for at least 10k if you did the engine compartment.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

Thanks for your opinion on the engine compartment. I have been struggling with that idea. I know it's gross under there. I'm just afraid that if I dont do a " 100 point restoration " it might actually hurt the price.

I don't think that not doing a 100 point resto will hurt anything, but a few new low dollar items under the hood, (belts & hoses type things) some cleaning & paint will go a long way. One factor in doing that is giving the appearance wider appeal so someone who hates detailing sees it as a turn key car. Personally, when I see a clean car with a crusty engine compartment, I immediately think that the car may have been a quicky, & not done right. Body work may have been rushed & other things overlooked. If the engine is clean & looks like it was detailed, it leads me to believe that the owner didn't neglect other things. That may or may not be true, but I think it holds some truth.

Kind of like if you went on a job interview with a new suit, but didn't comb your hair & still had some breakfast stuck to your chin.

No it's a Catalina. Pontiac cheesed out the lineup, every model is based on the same body. The different models were basically option packages. At least thats the way I understand it. I am by no means a pontiac guy so I could be wrong. I bought the car a couple of years ago when I had some money burning a hole in my pocket. I wanted a Mopar but then as now they were all too much money for a turnkey car. I thought I would be happy with the car, but the Charger bug wouldn't die. :-\

There were 3 lines of Pontiac.  The Catalina was the lowest price class the Bonneville was in the middle and the safari wagon was the highest.  The Catalina and the Boneville are the exact same car but the Bonneville is more optioned out with creature comforts (like AC).  The Catalina on the other hand is the racier version (although you could get a Catalina as a 4door).  The Catalina's are what did the racing.  If you find a 62 with a 421 in it cheap give me a call.  ;)  The Boneville vs. Catalina thing is similar to the Coronet vs. Superbee.  Same car but one is the go fast model.

253xxxxx   you are mistaken on the 1960 Pontiac lines.  ;D   There were basicly 3 models but they were the Catalina, Star Chief, and the Bonneville.  The Star Chief and Bonnevilles had a different body than the Catallina.  The trunk was a lot longer.

I had a 1960 Bonneville convertible back in the 60's.  Sure wsih I still ahd it.  They bring very large money now days.  The Catalinas sell for a lot less.  In my opinion you will get a better price for yours if it has chrome bumpers and a detailed engine.  I actually like the looks of your car but would buy a stock one first.  IMHO

I've had a few people with your opinion on the bumper chrome. I am still not convinced that I would like it better. Other than the reverse lights being shaved it would look stock. It would probably be cheaper to chrome the entire body of my charger. :icon_smile_big:
