Maybe perhaps one on going bill, like netflix, that comes off a credit card each month....guessing a lot of people do, right?

I'm not rich by a long shot, today, I'm even poorer...two cards, a small credit card for 3k, and a line of credit for 10k....is gone...just gone...and so is the cash in my  chequings account...fuck me...I am a little confused, canceled everything....

What now... :shruggy:...ever happen to any one before?

And yeah, did all my banking online....

I'll tell ya, for a guy that works more or less pay to pay, usually have a little left over, send that to my daughter for school...it sucks...at least my savings were at another bank, that i'm not online for...

A383Wing

what do you mean, "It's gone"??

did you get "Identity" theft? Did you loose a card?

I had $800 taken from my Paypal account a while back...they looked into it and I got it all back...I got hacked from Egypt of all places.

Call yer card & bank...they can help

In the United Broke States our banking system protects depositors by way of the FDIC. The Canadian banking system must surely have such a federal insurance program.

Yikes.  The bank should be able to tell you where the funds went and why.  If that doesn't match what you have spent than you have been ripped off by someone.

I've been told by my bank that they will stand by me if someone steals from my account.  I am not comforted by that. They said their is a process that will resolve issues.  I have learned what the word process means.  (prove yourself not guilty).

When a fraudulent charge appeared on my credit card (Visa) it was removed and fixed promptly. This is how the bank should handle things.

Banking is changing and what we have become used to may not be what we get. It is up to us to pay attention and ask guestions :Twocents:

Been lucky so far and haven't lost any money but I also don't do much online banking and I never give anyone access to just take money out of my account and I do not use direct deposit for anyone.  I have a bank account that I opened at a bank that I have no other accounts at just for Paypal and I keep $100 dollars in it and no more.
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

Ram07

They tell me it was a computer glitch... the money in my account is back, still waiting for the credit card thing to be sorted out...switching banks tomorrow....and no more online stuff for me!

the fees are a bitch but PayPal is still the easiest way to buy online    :yesnod: being in Australia I don't have any choice

"Manual" banking is inconvenient and time consuming but it's a "hard copy" way of doing your business. I've never been a fan of online banking and never will be but........it's the future for the next gen. I'll write checks or pay cash  for as long as I can.
My pension, SSI survivor spouse bene and IRA monthlies are all direct deposits. The only "auto-pay" I allow is my mortgage. I do that so my stepdaughter won't lose my/her house when I croak during the upheaval of the moment.
Everything else I do is old school.
I'm happy to hear your financial picture is brighter and it will all come out well for you.
This is a stark kick in the ass for all of us to change our passwords and choose live checks/payment over cyber trust.
Our world is ever growing in techno sophistication........so must our precautions.   :Twocents:

Funny you should bring this up....I do some banking transactions at both of our local banks such as check deposits....the tellers still ask me if I have my debit card to swipe that their teller window...I just tell them I left it at home or that it does not work anymore.....that way they gotta punch in all the required "button pushing" procedures themselves

ws23rt

I have the same question from my bank tellers.  They want me to swipe my card.  I tell them that I don't carry my card because it doesn't have the same protection that credit cards do if it was lost or stolen.

They also said I could take a picture of my checks and deposit them by the internet so I wouldn't have to come in.  So I asked if they could give me a cash back from my deposit by a picture of the money to me by the internet?   Hmmm  not yet :shruggy:

I may need an updated printer.

Fred

The mrs. loves internet banking, saves a lot of leg work and waisted time in queues. I'm lucky she's up to speed with it all. If it were left up to me, Id be putting in the leg work.

I'd gladly give you back those lbs.' that you mailed over here.  They're not needed anymore & you can have them back.  I'll ship them over for FREE.

We use Avast for virus/malware plus a few other programs.  Avast is the only preventative program that I pay for.  It has this program called the sandbox.  Anyhoots you're put in an isolated, virtual environment where you're safe.  That's where they suggest you do any kind of important transactions.

Fred

When can I expect them?  We have something here called money exchange where I can cash them in for useful dollars.  :icon_smile_big:

That sucks to hear but if there was a "glitch" and they are fixing it then what's the issue? Your account is online whether you actually do anything online or not so if the bank has a software issue you'll still be affected.

Your credit card info can be stolen by a waiter at a restaurant. Your credit card has fraud protection. It's inconvenient to deal with but not going to bankrupt you. Debit cards DO NOT have the same protection so, unless your bank has special rules, it's a lot harder to recover.

If you are the victim of online identity theft it is nearly 100% due to weak passwords OR (possibly) dealing with disreputable businesses. But mostly crappy passwords. Try not to use the same password for everything - even if it's a good one ("good" meaning upper and lower case letters, symbols, numbers and NOT common words OR your name, birthday, or any other easily found personal information). Example: If you have a throw away email account or an account on a "free" personals site DO NOT use the same user name/password as the one you have on your bank account!

Thieves are opportunists. They'll take the easiest path much more often than the hard one. Make your stuff harder to steal!

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I was watching something on TV couple days ago where they were talking about Facebook being recently hacked, mostly overseas.  The computer geeks fixing everything said they were overwhelmed by the amount of FB users that had such passwords as these:

The money that is still missing is a credit card, I don't shop online, the only time I actually used a credit card was to set up netflix.

The bank said a computer glitch for the for the line of credit and the chequing account, that money was put back, I'm still missing around 1500 on the credit card while they "look" into things.

Was given new cards, changed passwords, and since one credit card is used for netflix, I have a new card with a $100 limit, just for that.

I have no idea on anyone could have got my number and pin for the credit card.

The issue was logging on to pay my hydro bill, and finding my account in overdraft, and the line of credit, and credit card maxed out...it's causes a little anxiety, I get paid once a month.
