It is your car do what ever you want with it.
Dont worry about purists or anyone else. Enjoy it, drive it, and make it yours.
Heck back in the day we used to change alot on these cars, drive em hard, trash em, and buy another to modify!

F8-4life

Sure those Rt plates look great but I would leave the standard stuff on it.
No need to make it something it's not.
PLus a standard charger is like the underdog nowadays with all the clones & real Rt cars running around.
They get all the attention anyway.

Agreed. I searched a long time to find my original drivetrain, but of course no luck. I would of kept my 383 2bbl B7 Charger stock if I had found it.. No one can tell if my car was an original R/T unless they read the 'XP' on the vin tag. And the only people who would know that would be other MoPar guys, etc... I have the 440 HP, Beefed up suspension, R/T badging and a Mercedes Benz color. I love the look. The ONLY people who ever ask me if my car is an original R/T are other MoPar people, and of course I tell them the truth. It doesnt really matter anyway. Who cares, its my blood, sweat and loads of hard earned cash to restore my baby the way I want.  Same difference why people build 69 500 and Daytona Clones. Its those few dishonest people who re badge VINs and re stamp numbers to match.

We have an R/T Charger and a non-R/T Charger. I would never put R/T emblems on the XP29 car, no matter what. It's just lame, and doesn't really matter.  :Twocents:

Its kinda funny, its ok to build a clone wing car,but putting r/t badges on a xp car seems to be mostly, NOT APPROVED  :smilielol:  :stirthepot:

I'd put them on there if I felt like it. In my daily life 99 out of 100 people don't even know what they mean or if Dodge ever made a Charger that wasn't an R/T. I go to a lot of shows and only the people at Mopar shows ever feel the need to tell me about my own car (usually what's wrong with it). The guys at one show actually gave me points for the black engine bay in my Barracuda even though I initially wouldn't open the hood to have it judged. I had guys at another show crawling under my 1970 Challenger 440 Six Pack 4-speed clone looking for the Dana to prove it was real. Uh, the VIN and fender tag are clearly visible and state that it's a green Slant Six 3-speed. No need to get your knees dirty!

I haven't yet decided what I'm doing with my 318 Charger. Already welded the holes shut for the base emblems so it's either getting R/T emblems or nothing. It will have a stripe no matter what - and it's easier to remove. I have a real Charger R/T (sold another) and both are stripe delete! Of course, performance wise, that car will be way beyond any factory R/T so maybe it will look like more of a sleeper without the emblems?

like the look but will be quick to add that it's a clone!  :2thumbs:

My 70 has them, but I am quick to point out to anyone that asks that it isn't a real R/T.  If I had to do it over again, I would leave them off, but my brother and I put them on way back in the day when we were first getting into these cars so we didn't give it much thought. They looked cool, so we put them on. And due to the amount of work involved in removing them, they will be staying lol  :icon_smile_big:

Mine's a clone.  Do what you want, it's your car.  Personally, I wouldn't do it unless the drivetrain, suspension, etc. are brought up to RT specs or better.  As said before, never try to pass it off as the real deal.  I had an all original '68 R/T, but that was 45 years ago.  I just built my XP car to mirror the car of my youth.....

I have them on my car.  I guess it is my car, my money, I will do what I want with it.  The badges look cool, but I really like the stripe on Chargers.

If they don't like it, don't look at it. Plenty of others out there to see.

My opinion? As tempting as it may be, I wouldn't put R/T badges on it. Drop a Hemi in it, put a blower on it, upgrade the suspension, whatever performance upgrade you may want to do, but leave the R/T badges off.

Yeah, I agree that it is a personal decision; I wouldn't do it. Besides, my car is a lot rarer than a R/T and leads the conversation in a different direction (for those who want to learn).

Well, this is no bullshit.  My brother just bought a 2014 Mini-Van.  GUESS WHAT...IT'S A R/T.
The letters R/T could mean real trash.  :stirthepot:

Yeah, Chrysler is a little too liberal with the R/T badge these days.

Baldwinvette77

if dodge thinks its ok to put R/T badges on a caravan, the LEAST you can do is slap them on an XP car

hemihead

I personally would never do that . In fact , back in the Street days us Mopar guys would take a tire iron and pop the R/T and Engine emblems off the car . Never tell anyone what you are runnin !
