My neighbor has a 1st gen Viper.  He came out of a store and found a Mother had let her kid sit in it and play in it like it was some kind of toy.  She refused to even apologize.  He has since stopped driving it because he just got so sick of people that that and he is a really nice guy.  Now it is lucky if it gets driven once a year because as he is just keeping it as a collectible.  It is a green 94 and there probably aren't many green 1st gens, but I must admit that I don't see it becoming really collectible soon.  :scratchchin:

That just astounds me.  Its like all the GL's and everyone feels its their right to do a hood slide on them.

I've run into my share of overbearing admirers over the years, but never that!  Might as well just have someone walk into your house and start talking about your roof.  Stick a 357 in his face and maybe he'll get a clue.....

I would have come unwound over that one regardless of whether it was a Viper or a Duster or my old beater pickup.  :spank:

People are morons but any type of confrontation would just lead to more trouble, even if they deserve it.
Like the earlier poster said, just turn the key, fire it up and say I have to run.

I agree its the right thing to do, I just think with my kid in the back I'd be more apt to respond instinctively.

tucknroll

I wanted to let him have it but I thought it would scare my boy even more. I like checking out peoples classic cars as much as anyone but here in TN, people are going nuts about it. that's good and bad. I have not seen a charger in my town in years so I do feel pretty good about having it.

Fred

It takes all kinds. But I can't complain. I even get them asking permission to take pics.
What does annoy me though is when they come over to talk and then just prattle on and on about everything they've ever owned and I'm forced to listen. I'm not interested and I want to get going but they don't shut up long enough for me to get a word in..

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

You must have an understanding face.

Yeah, kids like me.
I've developed tunnel vision when heading from point A to my car, I don't look left or right and I don't catch anyone's eye.

Not trying to get overly deep here but I believe this is a lot of what's wrong with society today. Out of fear of retribution, people are not being told they have done something wrong and that they need to stop. Too much as been let go for far too long.

Yes but who's going to put it right?

Too many ding dong's out there! I know of three people that are just like that, ballsy and never were taught by their parents to RESPECT others property!!!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Ghoste

A fundamental lack of respect in our society period.

tucknroll

what about all the general lee remarks? that's a big one around here.

Ghoste

I'm not sure I would put that in the same category as trespass (which this incident with the Charger was in many ways) or not patiently waiting for an elderly person to cross the street or tagging buildings.

RECHRGD

With all the carjackings that go on these days, if someone walked up and opened my car door I would fear for my and my sons safety first.  There is a reason why over 20% of people in Spokane Co. Have conceal carry permits.  Anybody that would walk up and open your door is either a criminal or nuts, take your pick.....

I agree its the right thing to do, I just think with my kid in the back I'd be more apt to respond instinctively.

I was in a situation several years back where I did as you say "respond instinctively" when someone/thing threatened my child and in that case it was the WRONG thing to do.

My son and I (he was about 11yo at the time) were going for a run in the park near our home.  We passed a couple w/ some kind or pit-terrior type thing.  Anyway, these people did NOT have the dog on the leash and as we passed by, the dog took off after us.  My son was a few steps behind me, and when the dog caught up to him it started nipping at his legs trying to bite at him.  I immediately turned around - went straight for the dog, and I guess as it could see I was about to rip its head clear off its body it turned and ran back to its owners.

I guess I could have left it at that but I was so enraged that these people would illegally have that dog in a public place not on its leash that I instinctively started yelling and swearing at the owners.  We were right near a large pond, and I distinctly remember yelling at the owners that "if I ever caught this dog off its leash again and it pulled this shit, I'd personally drag it out into the pond and drown it".  They were too stunned to say anything.  Truth be told, I was really nuts for about 45 seconds to a minute....

Anyway AFTER all this my son was now terrified - of ME more than what happened to him w/ the dog.  He had never seen me that angry before and it scared the shit out of him.  I literally had to have a conversation or two w/ him the next couple days to discuss what happened, why I reacted the way I did, and that I admitted that I had indeed over-reacted, etc etc.  Really, that was worse than if I had just chased the dog away and had a few "more polite" words w/ the owners about putting the dog on the leash.

So just a word of caution - going postal in front of your child when something like this happens can sometimes be worse than the incident itself...

Sh*t some of us grew up with an old man that flipped out, cussed out dumbasses, and shot up stuff...
We learned real quick....do NOT piss of pops!
Asked him one time why he was so mad all the time....
His reply...
"Son, when you get older, your gonna see people do the very things I've told you not to. Your gonna see people do things to each other that belong in one dem TV shows you like..would you rather I do my job and prepare you for the REAL world, or would you prefer the fantasy?"

I still had love for the old man, but he figured love is great, but fear keeps my ass in line...
He was right 30 years ago, and he's still right. Thats the problem today. Nobody fears repercussions of their actions.

Why I can remember a time when 'bullying' was a way of life. You got tough, or you constantly got your ass whopped.
All it took was a few school shootings for 'bullying' to be recognised as a problem.
I guess a few dumbasses will have to be taught the hard way before people realize it aint cool to just disrespect someone's property.

I disagree.  Or at least I would put an asterisk on it.

There is pushing other kids around, and then there is psychologically tormenting someone.  Most bullies are the former but certain kids take way too much pleasure in emotionally hurting other kids just for its own sake.

I put that behavior on the same level with a kid who enjoys torturing pets or looking at child porn.  Some things are BAD indicators about a person's most basic mental wiring.

---------------------------

The problem is the way we deal with it.  Our society is no better at judging the character of kids than they are with adults.  A good-looking athletic kid from a wealthy family won't get in trouble no matter how sociopathic & sadistic he is.  The authorities worry more about a good-natured introvert in black clothes because he's drawing pictures of guns on his notebook.
