Actually I read it on a DOH site somewhere.  I am still pretty new here so I am sorry.  And yeah I know they were a bad place...have heard many horror stories about what kind of work they do on the cars there.
I love my 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Clone

They should have done like in Vanishingpoint, insted of vrecking the Challenger they took a Camaro and smashed into the catapillar :icon_smile_big:

i did buy one of the wrecked chargers. you see it in the ending credits/bloopers.. one of it's main jumps anyway. it's the interstate jump car where it lands then careens to the right and hits the guardrail. yep that's in my backyard. trust me, though it had a good frame, this car was toast. and i also sold them 2 of the 28 they used.. just so this gets put to rest, my 2 were stripped of almost anything useable, they did not roll, and had no front clip even on one. they had to be rollbacked onto a flatbed. they were cars that if listed on here.. would not have brought $500. not all were this bad, but at least these 2 had one last moment of glory. all the bitching of destroying good cars is stupid, it didn't happen. these cars were almost all junk, and there are plenty of cars in this condition still around that no one on this board or on ebay even.. wants to fool with. so just chill out about the destroying of good chargers already.. i agree it shouldn't be done.. BUT they aren't good cars, and i don't think anyone would have been standing in line to put 10 gallons of bondo on it to make it their daily driver..

10 gallons of bondo might not be that bad ::)

For me, the issue isn't so much wrecking the car (although I still despise it), it's showing the wreck.  I realize they were using mostly junk cars for this film, but the problem happens when thousands of morons watch it and think it's a great idea.  This inspires them to happily lay down their money to see it done live.  It keeps happening and happening and the Charger pile goes down and down.  Junk cars or not, I've seen some amazing cars brought back from the dead.
The one guy who sent a bunch of cars to the film company for them to use, sent them a couple that were pretty nice.  As I understand was so nice the film company wouldn't use it.  Congratulations to them for having a sense of preservation but you should be able to see my point that the owner of the car thought it'd be great to send them a good car to destroy.  Not everyone will have that sense of preservation and the next Wal-Mart Grand Opening in downtown Podunk may be more than happy to jump his good car for a cheap thrill.

As much as I hate to see Chargers being destroyed I have to think the show and movie are responsible for saving more cars than anything. There are very few people who are dumb enough to think you can jump a '69 Charger over a river without totaling it and breaking your neck in the process, so I find it hard to believe anyone is going to purposely destroy something they've had to pay $5,000-$10,000 to purchase. What is does is create more interest in the car so more people are looking for them, more of them are being pulled out of fields and barns to restore, and more of the nice Chargers are selling for more money. It may seem odd that a show that glorifies reckless driving and the destruction of Chargers could result in the opposite effect in reality but that's what has happened.

Hey trav I thought your car was launched more than once??

actually its in the august edition of Hotrod Mag, they went throught 26 chargers in teh making of the Dukes of Hazzard Movie, Fourteen '69 Chargers, Eight '68 Chargers, and Four 70's

can't argue with that, i totally agree.. the jumping for every little dukes event is long past the "out of hand" stage. it's not even cool anymore..
wakko, you are right, it made 3 jumps, first was wearing pre cooter paint(it jumped the river at the beginning), then the interstate jump, the 3rd was a huge practice jump for the final cable pulled jump in fromt of the courthouse.. this jump is not seen on screen. i personally recorded it on video though

Bull, I find your point logical and I hadn't really thought of it that way before.  But, even though your argument makes sense, I still can't warm to the idea of smashing them for Hollywierd.
