Who else gets the holiday off?

Through out my 31 year career in industrial maintenance I always worked the holidays and weekends. Five years ago I went to work for a utility, weekends and holidays off. This is sweeeet!

I got off work at 9:30 on Tuesday morning and I don't go back to work till 4:30 next Tuesday morning.

I too have worked in industrial maintenance for many years.  I remember big industrial plants would shut down on holidays to let the operators have time with family.  I would work those days to repair and service the machinery and have missed many of those holiday times with family.

Times have changed some and the big holidays are not so much the times to do the work they used to. (They bribed us with double time pay)

I now have all the time off I want.  A choice about working is a great perk of having planed ahead.

31 years have never worked Thanksgiving day. 

Friday is also a plant holiday which used to work when we got paid time 1.5X + holiday pay a few times..  BUT they only pay us .5 X and an extra comp day now so I've only worked that once or twice since they changed it to that crappy plan.

I work 4 10 hour days and Friday is my overtime day if I want to work it. I have a 4 day weekend this weekend and a 3 day weekend anytime I want it. I have not worked a Saturday in 20 years.
