My Car has been sitting still for months....I had it running at one time until what seems to be a collapsed lifter......I stripped it down bought new Johnson lifters, installed them ..and that's where my car sits....I am really hesitant in adjusting the valves, it has adjustable rockers.......I am really considering buying a new stock non adjustable set....as I am afraid I will just mess it up again....either that or getting it towed to a performance shop and let them do it sigh

I did everything to this car, body , paint all mechanicals and here I sit half afraid to finish it off....very frustrating......I wish there were more experienced people in my area to help show me how lol.....

well maybe I might try again, but for now it just sits...

ACUDANUT

I use the stock system.  Have you tried "you-tube".  They have folks on there using your set up. Watch and learn. Good luck.

Adjusting Hydraulic lifters takes a bit of feel and experience.  They can be tricky, but if you describe what you are feeling uncomfortable with, maybe we can walk you through it.  I have a way a doing it that works for me and has minimal stress involved!! :2thumbs:

If you change rockers you'll change pushrods also. The tops are cupped for adjustable and ball for stock. Many recommend "cut to fit" pushrods for an exact fit and that is tricky also. Just take your time and review the procedure for your rockers, you can get them close with the engine cold then redo after warm up.  :2thumbs:

Thanks guys...Stupid question

When I had set it originally I used the comp cam lifters which failed......but when they were set there were 2-3 threads of the adjuster screw showing beneath the rocker.......the New Johnson lifters seem Identical height...can I just turn the adj to show the 2-3 threads and start engine and make adjustments then?...

I would think that different manufacturers might have some variances in sizing.
Adjusting the rocker arms is a time consuming thing if you are not doing it very often. The hydraulics get tightened to zero lash, THEN  1/2 to 3/4 turn past that.
Cudanut had a great point: I also check YouTube when I embark on something different. Last Christmas the Father In Law asked me to change the power window motors in his 97 Ford. YouTube had plenty of helpful videos and I looked like an expert!

No don't set them blind like that. You rotate the engine in it's normal direction of travel and adjust each when certain it's in the valve closed position. You can feel adjustment to zero with your thumb and fore finger by rotating the pushrod while adjusting. (It will snug down.) Right at zero it will spin with slight drag, then go 1/2 turn. The whole point of adjustable is to account for all the variables for each valve's installed height. Hyd. lifters leave room for you being off some as they will compensate but you want to be close because at first start up because the new lifters need a break-in run at higher RPM.
Do a search here I'm sure it's been covered.  :2thumbs:
