Since these are basically made as 70 units with the rectangular reflector portion in there, does anyone know if it can be polished out of there to look more like a 69 one?

So basically they don't make both they just repop the 70 ones and are claiming its for both?

no...it's a completely different lens

:2thumbs:  :yesnod:  yeah that true  ,

but think the repop one has a extra clear or white reflector stuck into it   sure I saw a picture  on the net some where :yesnod:  it was this kind of set up to save production costs  witch turns a 69 into a 70
or could be getting mixed up with something else  :scratchchin: :P

will search for picture , or info where I read this  :scratchchin:

So can the rectangle portion be cleaned up so as to not be visible?

no...it's part of the lens....the read part is molded differently also.

why not get a 69 lens if that's what yer asking? They make both years

Ghoste

Because I have been told that they DON'T actually make both years.  They make a 70 one and the 69 one is from the same mold but just doesn't have the refelctor included.  I'm told you can still see the outline in the plastic where it goes.

Mike DC

Yeah, this has come up before.  They don't make a '69 lense without any visible evidence of the 1970 reflector hole.

Does it really cost that much more to tool up another mold to make a 69 only taillight?  I would have thought it'd cost more to make the 70 than it would a 69.  I shouldn't complain.  The 70 guys can have reproduction parts too.

Mike, do you know if anyone has tried, or if it is even possible, to eliminate that evidence?

Mike DC

I dunno.  Seems theoretically possible, but probably not worth the effort.  $400/pair can buy you some pretty nice used originals.
