Did WB not give a GL to Waylon Jennings?

Yeah, it kind of bugs me when someone passes off a replica as being a read deal car. The owners/sellers of these cars are always the same. You try to give them the benefit of the doubt, like maybe they bought the car themselves as a "real" car.  So you contact them to let them know the truth. You will either get no response, or you will get a response where they are all defensive, with their feelings hurt, and they still try to make you believe that the car indeed is real.  There is a handful of people like Mike DC, myself, and many more have been following the real deal cars for a number of years.  It's funny how many fakes go up for sale when in reality, there have only been a small number of real cars have actually hit the market lately.

If I can ever find the time, I plan to build an information webpage... Sort of a go-to page for anyone interested in the real surviving cars.  It will have all TV, Reunion, and Movie General Lees on it. I honestly feel like Waylon's car has very much importance, along with "General Lee Enterprises" show cars and a few others.  Enough importance that even they will have a spot on the web page as an "honorable mention... But not screen used" car.

I own one of the two cars that Mike DC mentioned above. In 1996, WB purchased my car and another to go along with the car they already had.  All three cars were freshened up to be used in the made-for-tv Reunion movies in 1997 and 2000.  The three went on to be used in the 2005 and 2007 Movies. I acquired my car in Oct 2009.

As Brock said, most of the people willing to put big money into a GL would rather have a nice replica.  The originals were unusably rough as they left Warner Bros.  Their overall build quality was too low to make them presentable with anything short of a ground-up resto.  But that exterior appearance from the TV show is what makes them interesting.

I missed this before. Just because you may find it interesting..Waylon had many of those Tele's (some were even Esquires with an added neck pickup and changed decal). Like General Lee's, there are many out there, some he owned, some he didn't own, claiming to be "the one" used on the Duke's intro. However, years ago I found the actual guitar from the intro. You know who owns it? Keith Richards! He didn't know and doesn't even care about that part of the guitars history. Once belonging to Waylon is all that matters to him. He actually takes it out on the road on occasion. It still looks exactly like it did.

remember reading about Waylons GL in a mopar mag  long time  ago 20 plus years    maybe  ,
thought sure it read , was actually used in the show  , or the end credits of the later series ,  the one you see going round & round the tree , with out a roll bar , may be im remembering  this wrong guys so don't quote me on this was a long time ago ,  will have a search for the mag ,  not sure if still got it ,   as I gave hundreds away recently

ok found said article  ,  who knows how true article is  , cause it says doors wernt welded either  , ! I did not think any were really  welded   ?? unless it was just the big jump cars etc
 it does say was used in show , no roll bar , I remember now , it was ME assuming ( adding two & two together & coming up with 7     )  that with no roll bar it was the one driving round & round the tree , at the end credits of the later shows  , also  there was another in one in  one show used with out a roll bar from memory.

like I say I was assuming back then , (  the  GL & DOH  mob   ,  know the  true story & all about this stuff    )

I wonder, did he ever actually go to the set to see an episode filmed or meet cast and crew?  I know there would be no need to of course so thats why I wonder if he did.

It was an episode from I do belive season 7 of the Dukes of Hazzard. the episode is about him and the Dukes helping each other and them talking about how Jesse knew Waylon and how they became friends back in Uncle Jesse's younger days.

Okay, don't recall that one but now that you say it I do recall a spell there where they frequently had country stars of the day on there.

Waylon didn't make his appearance until the last season of the show when things had gotten really cheesy.  At that point the cast & crew were being given something like 8 days to shoot each episode, they were using miniatures for some of the car stunts, etc.  The producers had been gradually cutting the show's resources down for the last few seasons to see how much profit they could milk out of it before it died.    



Most (but not all) of the country music star appearances in Hazzard were the "Celebrity Speedtrap".  Various big-name country music stars would get bogus traffic fines when their tour busses passed through Hazzard, which had to be worked off by doing a show at the Boars' Nest.  It was basically an excuse to open or close an episode with the singer's appearance. They would sing a song, the crowd would applaud, the star would make a comment about Roscoe forcing them into it, and then be on their way.  Those scenes were usually filmed at the end of the week/episode and it would spill over into an on-set wrap party.

Here is a perfect example of what I was talking about earlier. This seller is trying to pass off a replica as Lee 1... or "GL230". One, I've never even heard of GL230 and 2, this car isn't even a good replica of the real Lee 1.  Just for a good laugh, I'd like to hear this guy's story and see his documentation.

I'll add what I know. When I bought my '68 in Texas the previous owner gave me a few photos of the car from the June 1997 Boerne, Texas TDG show. The back of the photo tells the tale that Wayne Wooten negotiated with Warner Bros to have the members of the TDG buy the 19 GL's left, with Waylon Jennings purchasing one. The GL shown belongs to TDG member Glen Hunt while the '68 now belongs to yours truly.    The two pics I have are below (which I have shared before in another thread).
