Did WB not give a GL to Waylon Jennings?

I was under the impression that he did get one. :popcrn:

Honestly, I'd rather have the custom Telecaster he used on the show's intro.   A Charger I have, a WJ Tele, I do not :)

Waylon had a General , but it was built for him   by someone other than the W.B  , it was never screen used .

well, they could of seems everyone is popping out of the wood work these days saying they got one. Seems all the actors have sold theirs or are selling them now and trying to comman a premium for them.

One of the rags did an article on Waylon's car years ago. It was apparently built for him after remarkimg about what a good-looking car the close-up General was.
Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not;  a sense of humor to console him for what he is.      Francis Bacon

Did WB commission any for people associated with the show?

None  , the cast didn't even get one of the General's when the show was cancelled , the remaining cars sat out on the Valencia Oaks ranch for six years after the show was cancelled .
The W.B offered the remaining cars to a bunch of people  , no one wanted them , which worked out well for Wayne Wooten and the dodge charger registry .

The only other cars built with the permission of the W.B where the GLE cars , built to tour the country for the World of Wheels show's .

None at all?  There sure are a lot of false claims out there huh?

Yeah.  A bunch of cast members have had GLs built over the years but none of them were WB-associated cars.

The closest one is arguably John Schneider's infamous Hemi "$10 million dollar GL."   He put the car together on his own in the 1990s just for personal use.  Then WB recruited it to use in the last DOH reunion special in 2000.  They didn't designate any specific hero-car GL for that production in 2000 but JS's car did get significant screen time.

The TV series ended in 1985, and the next-generation Jessica Simpson movie was filmed in 2004.  Warner Bros only ever had/used 4 General Lees in between that time.  One was a TV series survivor they had kept, two were built in 1996 for the reunion shows, and the other was John Schnieder's car.

Do all the false claims bother the DOH fans much or do you just kind of shrug it off and buyer beware?

I remember reading several different places that each cast member got one of the cars once WB finished the series, I could see WB doing that just to get rid of some cars that were left over.... but who knows for sure...
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

None where given to the cast ,  yes there are a lot of false claims and clones being passed off as screen used,  i had a guy at a show with a clone , telling people it was a screen used GL
despite it having black interior , wrong decals , wrong pushbar etc ,  but John schneinder  autographed the dash , so that must have been what made it screen used .

Yes John's GL was used in the 2nd tv series reunion , so it is counted as a screen used GL . Waylon's GL  a replica , not screen used .

CornDogsCharger

Here are a couple pictures of Waylon's car.  These were taken before he passed away and the car was still in his possession.  You can see the pushbar is not even right.  If WB would have built the car, they would have at least had the right pushbar.  Plus, the car also has black interior.

At least it has a Waylon connection.  Is its whereabouts known or does the DOH community much care about the Waylon connection on that one?

Indygenerallee

I think CMT gave the Waylon car away in a giveaway contest several years back.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

They gave away a car they had built. It wasn't very well done, in accuracy or quality of workmanship. It appears every once in a while and lots of bad body work was creeping back.

There's just nothing anyone can do about it.

There have been so many cars falsely sold as real ones for so long .  .  . it's hopeless.  We'll never have any idea of what a real GL's true value would have been if all those buyers had been competing for the same two dozen actual cars all this time.

If you're in the market for a real one then it's not too difficult to find out whether a car is legit or not.  You can always wait for one to come up for sale and bid on it.   The VIN numbers and trains of ownership on them are known.

If you don't care enough to learn the difference, then there are plenty of other people ready to sell you a much nicer condition "real one" with no legit show connection and all the details wrong.

Hmm, frustrating I bet.  They are certainly a unique niche market in the car hobby in so many ways aren't they?

Niche market is absolutely right. There is certainly desirability in real ones. However, most of the guys that desire them are lucky if they can afford to cobble together a clone. The desirability amongst those with the funds to pay what many "real General Lee" owners expect is very, very limited. Many of those guys would rather buy a nice clone that looks great and is well done. It is a better "bang for the buck" than the rough looking and often rough running prop used on the TV show. Because of this selling real ones tends to take some time for the right guy with the cash and the desire to come along.
