getting ready to make a choice i was given a 440 block, heads and crank when i bought the car, thinking about putting a 572 hemi being its not matching anyway.I dont know if a hemi is worth all the extra time and money, any thoughts? :shruggy:

myk

What do you WANT to do?  How do you envision your car?  Everyone and their mother's Civic DX has a 440 in it.  I would consider that Hemi just to stand out from the crowd...

Fred

I put a Hemi in mine and I've never looked back. I'd do it again.
Oh, and did I mention it makes it so easy to change the plugs?  :icon_smile_big:   That in itself is a blessing.

Got an extra $25,000 laying around ?

Do the Hemi.

If not, do what us poor people do and build a nice 440.

I'd hope that if someone were to have the gall to make a thread like this one, then they would have the resources to realize either option...

The Hemi is great for the WOW factor, if you are willing to spend the extra money, then I guess go for it.

As far as performance,  if you take a 440 with beefy bottom end, you can either add a 8-71 blower (WOW factor) or better yet, Procharger, will cost way less than the 572 Hemi, and will be way faster too.  Plenty of built 440's going faster then Hemis, for less money. Both these options will give you 800-1000 HP.  Its your call.

Yes, but a  440 is a better bang for the buck.  If you're just wanting the Wow factor, I'd go wth the Hemi.

Interesting. I didn't go with the Hemi for the WOW factor. I went with it because it makes changing the plugs a whole lot easier!     :nana:

Blown 440.  If that isn't a WOW factor I don't know what is.  Then again, not everyone wants a giant thing popping out of their hood...

I agree gotta love changing the plugs out the easy way vs the hard way...

I take a hemi anyday for power, wow factor, spark plug, etc..what else.  seems to me all PROs and NO cons...

Do you guys really have trouble changing plugs on a 440?  Can't be harder than changing the plugs on an LT1; that sucker took me a day and a half and a lot of tears...

Fred

I was going to say the same but the cost involved may be too great.

have you not seen a spark plug change on a Hemi myk?  The 440, 383, etc.. are a pain especially with headers you gotta dig deep in there on top of that buy a special tool sometimes to get the plug out.  I like my 383 she is robust, but damn those spark plugs damn them to HELL.

Honestly I've never seen the plug situation on a B/RB with headers, as I have the stock manifolds on my 440.  I've got small hands, so maybe that's why it's easier for me to do it.  I don't know how some of you line-backer-type members change plugs, or do anything else for that matter...

my hands are small too, I think, but damn those plugs myk.  Its a major pain to get to I have to jack up the car to get to the No. 8 plug and some others.  If I could I would buy a crate 426....or 572 lol.

But you have headers, right?

IMO,
Doing a Blower on a Wedge is great for WOW factor, same as the HEMI, both are really nice eye candy.
But.....
I dunno about being "cheaper" ?? seems to me by the time you are done....hanging the lung on the Wedge is going to hurt too ?

Just how often are you guys changing your plugs anyways ?? something wrong with your Engines ? or tune-up ? that this is happening more frequently than normal ?
Once a year...no big deal...Headers or not.

Costs to much.   :nana:
cost not a factor the OP though.  Like myk said for someone asking 440 or hemi means the have the money already unless they are only asking for kicks and giggles which is equivalent to, 'does my stock 4 banger honda civic beat a old ragged american muscle V8?

I am still in the build process but my 572 looks huge under the hood.  :drool5:

I figured with a 572, I could never second guess myself about not going with a bigger engine. :2thumbs:

I will say it was a tough go fitting for the headers (a lot of cuts = fully custom).

What transmission are you going with to handle the HP?

Fred

It's my belief there's only one option. 4 speed with Dana 60 rear.   :Twocents:
