I know Christmas stuff has been in stores since before Halloween.....but.....

I took Cappy, our dog out for one of his long walks today...we were walking down a street a couple blocks from our house and I saw a house on this street already had the indoor Christmas tree up and decorated in the front picture window....really??

Maybe they didn't take it down from last year........I mean why bother. With the way time flies these days, you no sooner pack the lot away and it's ready to be pulled out again.


Immediately after Christmas you can buy hot cross buns which once upon a time could only be bought at Easter.

I put up 3 Christmas trees in one house yesterday.  The rest of the house was already decorated.  For me, I haven't taken down my Halloween decorations.  Maybe this week.  I enjoy the lights.

The meaning of the "big three" holidays..... Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas have long since been lost. The "holidays" are now just orgies of consumerism and gaudy displays of bling. Valentines Day is a hideous example of "money means love". I have always hated it. When I had my Diane, everyday was Valentines Day.

Holidays are meaningless to me now. I don't enjoy then or do anything for them anymore. It was more fun when you never heard a damn thing about Christmas until after Thankgiving  

There is one radio station here that went all Christmas music 24/7 around October 15th already

The holiday music channel on tv didn't go to full Halloween music until a week before.  The day after Halloween, they went to nonstop Christmas music.   I will agree that the retailers are pushing it forward to much.  Walmart in my area put out Christmas decorations the first week of October.  I start buying a random gift or two in October, but that's just because I know if I didn't get it then, I wouldn't be able to during the shopping season.

That is so true......Valentines Day is the biggest rip off of them all. How commercial can it be when we're being told it's not just for the love of your life but for family too. Buy something nice (or at the very least a card) for a family member, a sibling, parents or a favourite Aunt. I mean come on!
And as you say Tom, true love doesn't need Valentines Day. True love is every day. It comes in the form of respect and caring. All the little things you do for one another that add up to one big "I love you" without spending a penny.

Plastic's not for me.......I have a severe allergic reaction to fake trees.

Plus, I don't think anyone sells a fake one that fits my space. You see, I have this one spot in the house.......ceiling height is pretty good......limiting factor is the width of the base of the tree. So far, 22 feet tall is the biggest we can get thru the door. [sigh] Maybe next year I will get the double[French style] front door in.......

Fortunately, I have plenty of Firs on my property, hate to think what it would cost to buy one that big. And yes, I have been told I am......more then a little nuts for have that big a tree. Us kids like it though......

My old house [lost to fire in 08] had about 12' to work with. My sons, being teenagers, figured out if they cut the tree just the right length......they could wedge it in the ceiling.....thus not having to worry about the smaller kids tipping over the tree. Or at least that is what they told me to explain the hole in the ceiling. I think they just thought it would be easier doing it that way, then fixing the tree stand they broke. Of course, being the lunatics we are......we kept doing it that way.

The replacement dwelling[though not yet finished, as I am doing it myself and am slow] has a lot more room. So big tree. All of the grandkids like it.....the big kids too.

Excellent!   A thought.....you could always just remove the ceiling light for the duration and stick the tip of the tree through that.

Call me Charlie Brown, but having the tallest Christmas tree doesn't suit me.  A nice 6 or 7 footer that is filled in nicely will do the job for me.

Honestly though, the big trees take for ever to take down. Putting Xmas decorations up is one thing but taking the whole lot down again........YUK!

Call me Charlie Brown, but having the tallest Christmas tree doesn't suit me.  A nice 6 or 7 footer that is filled in nicely will do the job for me.

I like Charlie Brown trees too. I like some flaws......don't care for the perfect sheared ones.

Just bigger. Much bigger.

Just so there's no misunderstanding[ I consider myself a good steward of the land] always trees that needed to come down anyway. Often start out 40-50' up........just the top of a tree that is being logged. Or a smaller one that needs to be thinned out. Smaller being relative of course. A few times came from lot clearing or tree surgery.

Fred, I hear ya on taking them down.....if the dam thing starts shedding, you need a shovel to clean up the needles.
