Question on originality

The XH 70s did come with bench seats and I'm not sure if you could order buckets for them or not. One thing I'm pretty 99% sure of though; you couldn't order '69 buckets for a 70. :2thumbs:

Offer him $7500 because of how someone molested the grille, interior, and engine bay for starters.

It would be nice but I don't see anyone selling that for $7500. The 15k that Ghost suggested is closer to what it's worth.  :Twocents:  If you want an actual survivor that has everything correct and looks good you would have to double even that to buy it.

Just for the record, I wasn't suggesting the car is only worth 7500.00. But maybe if someone offered him that amount and told him that the low offer was because areas of the car had indeed been molested, maybe just maybe the seller would open his eyes to just how ridiculous it was that he misrepresented the car as being unmolested in the ad.

I keep an eye on local ads for cars, engines, parts, etc., and it never ceases to amaze me how many people misrepresent an item when trying to sell. Where is it written that it's okay to lie through your teeth when trying to sell something?

This is on a smaller scale but a while back on our local Club site a member advertised a pair of 2nd Gen. Hemi aluminum valve covers as being NEW and for sale. Surely a club member wouldn't lie to fellow members would he? I drove over to check them out and found a pair of valve covers that had discoloration on them from years of use, plus they both had obvious stress cracks. I looked at them, then looked at him and said new? Really? He just stood there with a stupid look on his face.  I was really annoyed that he had wasted my time.
I was taught to call a spade a spade! And I have little if any regard for anyone that tries to piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. The '70 Charger being discussed here is not "unmolested".  Shame on the seller for suggesting it was. I'd consider the 15 second engine paint job alone molestation.

Oh sorry, I thought that was what you felt the car was worth.

My thought on it was if someone came to me and offered me less than 1/2 of what I was asking for it, they probably wouldn't be able to buy it at any price due to my telling them to go to hell.    Maybe a 12k offer and explain what is wrong with it because he is misrepresenting the car,  but I still think 15 would be a fair price.

When selling a house or car these euphemistic terms are always overused.  Here's my take on what these terms mean.

"A euphemism is a generally innocuous word or expression used in place of one that may be found offensive or suggest something unpleasant.[1] Some euphemisms are intended to amuse, while others use bland, inoffensive, and often misleading terms for things the user wishes to dissimulate or downplay."

unmolested, original= "I never got any action in the back seat"
barn find= "There were animals living in it at one time, usually mice",
survivor= "I never had the money to rip out that 383 and put in the blown 440 or HEMI",
rust free= "Once I replaced the whole floor pan in my garage I couldn't poke a screw driver through it anymore",
easy restored= "All the parts are in those milk crates", and
frame up= "Took it all completely apart"

Sublime/Sixpack

Great restoration project= Please won't some poor sucker take this POS bucket of rust off my hands?

Runs/drives = "brakes don't work"
only quarter sized rust holes behind rear tires = "roof, rear window, trunk floor, rear frame rails, trunk extensions, and quarter panels are totally shot"
collectible = "I saw a Hemi Charger on BJ go for $100k, my rusty XP car is worth half that"
all bodywork done = "we covered our sins in gray primer"
complete before disassembled = "I can't find all the parts"
just pulled out of a field/barn/garage = "I'm a flipper!"

If I was a buyer and looking at the car the first question I would ask is what does the term "unmolested original" mean to them.

A seller can be anyone from a friend of the owner to a scammer.  When getting past the possible lies right off --a bottom line can be found quickly.

All too often a seller is hoping to hook the uninformed. A sad commentary on human nature.

Any update OP?  Did you get to look at it or find out more on the phone?

...Didn't the strippo base Charger come with a bench seat?

You are correct. The base model (XH) had bench seat only, buckets were not available. The Charger arrow in the grille (no 500 emblem), lack of taillight trim, and doesn't appear to have upper door pads certainly suggest it was/is a base model. In that case I certainly see someone replacing the bench seat with buckets. If would be interesting to see if the rear seat trim matches the front. If you go look at it, let us know.

is it my eyes, or does that radiator look small? I mean smaller than normal?

I noticed that also so checked my parts book. Standard rad for 318 without air was 19". Other rads depending on engines/options were 22" and 26". So it is not your eyes! ;D

just out of curiosity...what was standard rad for slant 6 car?

I gave the guy a call, he seemed legit.
No fender tag, and he only drove it about 250 miles.  No A/C, and I need that for Florida. I know it can be put in. Sounds pretty straight, with very minor rust. Wish I was closer, he already turned down some offers.

Not because I'm interested in the car but did he say what kind of offers?  That is did they seem like close offers or was he getting lowballed or... ?
