I just don't like or understand the whole deal.....is it of some value to you?  :scratchchin:  Yea I can see 100+ years ago how it may have had it's place but now, really! Why not just shift the whole mess 1/2 an hour and call it done.
In Florida they schedule high school kids to school earlier than others. It's a fact that mostly mid/upper teens are not prone to "early morning nature" and they have an annual evaluation exam every year that gauges their placement scholastically and rates the schools also. They give the darn test a week after shifting the clocks ahead! So now you test kids early in the morning before their adjusted to the time change. I dealt with this for years by getting the kids up earlier weeks in advance and pushing them to settle down earlier in the evenings and boy they were grumpy!
Now my internal clock is fighting time, I now get up an hour before the alarm goes off and fall asleep in the middle of my evening. I'm only going now cuz I've been drinking coffee after work to further mess up my pattern.
Someone PLEASE tell me it's a "Good Thing" for you and I won't be so grumpy!

Fred

I love it. What I don't understand is why they don't just set it to daylight savings and leave it at that. Why go back and forth. I prefer the extra daylight at night, makes for a longer day.

Fred, no kids I take it?  May I ask what's the shortest day of sun you get?

Back when I was able bodied & working I absolutely hated it.  Go to work in the dark, come home in the dark...on top of constant drizzle.  Once we start losing light it seems the weather change isn't far behind.  Price to pay to live in God's country.

That's right, no kids in the house.  The shortest day of sun would be winter, sunrise around 7.30am, sunset around 5pm. The thing is, I get up around 4am every morning so it's always dark no matter what time of year but the extra daylight at night I can take advantage of.

But losing daylight is going back to normal time (minus daylight savings which is only adopted in the summer months) which is why I'm saying they should leave it at daylight savings all year round. That way you'll get a little extra light in the evening during the winter months.

How else would you remember to change the filters in the furnace and the batteries in the smoke detectors?

Maybe you could change at Easter and Christmas times instead.

Daylight time this month, original time that month, whatever.

The bottom line is that about 300 million out of the total 300 million people in the USA would rather just keep the extra hour of daylight in the evening all year round.  We've felt this way for decades, and we will probably be making the same complaint decades from now with no change in the situation.

I hate 'standard' time.    Hate going to work and coming home in the dark.   Give me that extra hour in the evening   :icon_smile_cool:

No... I don't really worry about the kids going to school either.    When I was still going to school I wanted that extra hour after school also.

Pretty easy to say when you've taken the choice not to have any.  Until then, you'll never understand.
I quit comparing to my childhood a long time ago.  It does me no good raising our daughter.
Don't get me wrong, I hated it when I worked but the hours I used to put in it wouldn't have mattered cause I'd go/return to work in the dark regardless.
My whole perspective changed with our daughter.   :2thumbs:

That's what I'm saying, the extra hour at the end of the day is worth heaps more than daylight in the morning. IMO.

Not to mention the poor dairy cows.

I don't mind it. Hell, I'm sure some would rather have a sunny Xmas too, but round here we like it white.

I like a white Christmas too but if it means having to put up with three months of it.........I'll pass.

I like the extra hour of light after work in the summer. Gives me time to do some yard work, take the dog for a long walk or take one of the Chargers out for a ride.

I enjoy the extra hour of light in the summer time....but personally, I would just split the hour to 30 minutes and make the time standard all year round....this bouncing back & forth is worthless to me anyway

There's no need to put me down about my "lack" of parental status..   I've been a step parent which is all the responsibilities and problems just like you... just without any respect or appreciation in return.

Perhaps parents should protest to change the early school starting times since some of the last data I read was that kids really do need to sleep in later.    It's not like they're getting up early to milk the cows  :shruggy:

Fred and I opted not to have children either (he has a daughter from his first marriage). It's a decision  we've never regretted. I know myself well enough to know I didn't want any and Fred was quite happy to go along with it.
There's nothing wrong with that.

To Mrs. Fred...you got a big kid there anyway in Mr. Fred....our prayers & thoughts to you

Shaughnessy, you've bragged about your choice in not fathering a child before is the only reason I mentioned it.

Congrats on being a step Father.  Sorry, but I've never heard you speak of him/her.   :shruggy:

And contrary to what you think, " just without any respect or appreciation in return."  It has nothing to do with whether you're a sperm donor or not.
Probably the hardest thing I deal with in my life right now.

Thankyou Bryan, he can indeed be quite a handful. And believe it or not......the bigger the kid, the greater the mess.   :yesnod:
Did I mention, the older he gets, the harder he is to look after?
