Hello all,
I have been trying to decode my fender tag and I need some help.
Its a 68 Charger but if i read it correctly it might be a Canadian car?
I also can't find the pnt code 331.  :shruggy:

Any help will be great.

Thanks for the info. the paint is in bad shape and it was repainted maroon.
The 6 code under Y is giving me trouble. The car has standard instead of Metric gauges.   :shruggy:

if the number "6" is under the large "Y", it should have a black vinyl roof...if it's under the small "y"....then it's a new car delivery with 5 gallons of gas in the tank

TexasGeneral

331 is charger red/charger red/ monotone and the "A" is for a foreign ordered vehicle... might be Canadian

Thanks for the info. It is a black vinyl top car. I would really like to know it's history, going from Canada to Colorado.

The Shipping Order (SO) number start with an A. (A48155) That tells us it was built for sale in Canada.

That's a pretty easy sequence to remember. It's as easy as ABC

68=A SO = Canada
69=B Vehicle Order Number (VON)= Canada
70=C VON = Canada

69CoronetRT,
Thanks. Should it have had Kilometers instead of MPHs Speedometer?

I have seen 66 & 67 Chargers with Kilo speedometers, but I don't think I have seen a second generation Charger in Metric

JB400

I know the e bodies could have the kilometer speedometer.

I don't know what the regulations for speedometers were in Canada. Maybe someone from Canada can chip in on that. I don't know if the regulations varied by province or how that worked.

First first gen kilometer speedo I ever saw , was on a hemi 67 out of Peru. One would think only export cars, however there is a member of 66-67 in Texas that has one. And I got to see one at Moparfest several years ago, that was out of eastern Ontario. Keep in mind, 66 thru the early parts of the seventies,Canada was miles per hour, so there was no need for Canadian built cars, at that time, to have kilo speedo's

Kinda wish I had one.....

Has anyone seen a second gen export model with one?

Ghoste

Canada didn't go metric until the late 70's.

Agree - I never saw any kilo speedometers until the mid to late '70's.

We got the word while in school - "Oh, by the way, starting today we are on the metric system"......The what?  :lol:

Thanks yet again Pierre! Not!

"The Liberal federal government of Pierre Trudeau first began implementing metrication in Canada in 1970 with a government agency dedicated to implementing the project, the Metric Commission, being established in 1971. By the mid-1970s, metric product labelling was introduced. In 1972, the provinces agreed to make all road signs metric by 1977."

Another smug politician.  With the bilingual letterign and metric sizing forcing unique packaging for a relatively small market is it any wonder products are cheaper in the US than here for the same thing?  Oh well, moving back on topic, Canadian tags are the same as the US ones with the exception of a code to indicate Canadian ordered.

Thanks to everyone for the information.
Should I put a Maple Leaf in the rear window?

the all numeric paint codes were spring introduction colors only. Mine is 66-1 which became F8 in 69 and on. This is why they don't show up on the documentation from the beginning of the model year.

Chrysler did not expect to sell so many Chargers in 68; and they were scrambling at the end of the model year to keep parts, etc up with the demand.

My car has several options which are really pre-implementations of 69 options. My car is May 68 build date.

33-1 is Charger red. Don't know it it carried on to 69 and beyond.
