Hi, random Q.. when I fill up my 69 Charger the pump never stops by itself in time, wihtout creating a mess. Any advice? Thx!

Yes. Carefully bend your ear down by the filler neck. Once you get used to filling your charger up, you can actually hear when it starts getting close. From there on you can go very slow and shut off before you hear it come to the top. Sounds silly, and obviously you don't want to slosh gas in your ear, which is why i said carefully, maybe from a foot away. I haven't spilled any in years now doing this..
i live in CHARGERLAND.. visitors welcome. 166 total, 7 still around

Agreed - listen, and you will hear the rush of gas... You do not have to get close or bend, just Be careful!!! :Twocents:

Same here, never spill a drop. It works.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

yup, same here though I dont even go that far anymore.  I usually estimate how much is in the tank left and just fill up to replace near max what I think I should be at.

This will probably be of no help but the info is worth sharing. The station I frequent has non-ethanol super and the nozzle has one of those bellows which creates a nice seal around the base of the flip top cap. I shove the nozzle as far in as I can, squeeze the trigger with one hand and hold the bottom of the bellows tight to the base with the other to create the seal. Works every time.

I got caught out the first time I filled up. Listening out for the change in sound does work.
You'll get used to it.

Fill it up in NY..     those pump handles with the trigger locks are banned.   :rotz:  We have to sit there and hold it which makes it easy to hear  :Twocents:

Also, grab a paper towel before you start filling.  After filling wad it up and hold it to the end of the filler nozzle so that it doesn't drip on top of the quarter panel*.

*Also works for Triumph TR-6 with fuel filler cap in the middle of the dutchman panel!

That's interesting...I've never had that problem. Not in the US (when I bought the Charger) nor in Austria.. the pump always shuts off.

:yesnod:     I don't 'top off'...... just estimate what I need for a close to full tank.

Its one of the reasons I started going self serve before the stations started forcing everyone to it.  Too many pump jockeys back years ago splashing fuel all over the top of my 1/4 panel.
