I was just wondering if there is a difference between headlight switches that are made in the US. One claims to be a heavy-duty version, with a high-capacity rheostat that won't overheat and burn out. It also has a 25 Amp internal self-resetting circuit breaker so it can be used on 2 or 4 headlamp cars without incurring overcurrent shutdown "on-off-on" problems. Did the original switches have this? Do all of the new ones? Or, is this unique. I'm all for upgrading any weak links in our cars electrical.

I cannot answer your question regarding differences in switches, although I have never heard of a circuit breaker in these.  All you need go do though is the headlight relay mod, that will take the juice out of the headlight switch as it now operates the relays instead.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Ghoste

I haven't heard of the breaker either.  Do you have a link?

the headlight switchs have internal breaker inside...if lights are going off and on, breaker is bad

It's a 74. I'm just curious if the original ones were similar, or if this switch is unique. It does cost a bit more than the others.

A383Wing

does your switch look like the ones in the ebay link? If yes, then just go to NAPA and get one for under $20

I don't have a switch to compare to. I'll just look up the part number when I'm ready to buy. Just wondering if it's worth the extra protection and this way don't have to bother with the relay mod.

All original headlight switches from at least 1969 and up have circuit breakers internally. About 20 amps according to the FSM.  Wiper switches also.  Power windows have a circuit breaker on the cluster, behind the ammeter.  They're 30 amp.  All are thermal, auto reset type.

what "extra protection" are you asking about? As stated before, all headlight switches have internal breakers inside....you won't find one without it
