How to tell what year a motor is

What numbers on a block do you use tell what year it is, going to pick up a snowmoblie for a buddy tomorrow and he got a chevy 350 of him to and he said he has a 440 6-pack and two hemi's for sale, Does it matter or no, i like know the year of them both i think about a offer for one of them

Isn't it a................letter on the front of the block?  Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Dates are cast in the side of the block above the casting numbers.

If you get one hemi for me , I will be on line all night day , day after day to help give advice, I promise I won't sleep till I get my oops I mean help you with date coding these motors
Look up Chrysler tech articles, print off and take with you, explains casting numbers and where to look for dates etc, and I will be waiting to help and give you shipping details for one of the unwanted hemi's
