We have been working on our car for close to 3 years now and spent many hours at our local NAPA auto store.  I became friends with one of the guys working at the counter, and it wasn't until this past year that we figured out we were practically neighbors. (his house is on the main road leading into our neighborhood).  this turned into a few personal deliveries of parts and time spent looking at our progress.  over the last few months Chris was over to check out the latest and mentions his best friend from high school had the same car and as far as he knows still has it (over 20 years).  2 weeks ago I get a call that his friend is willing to part with the car as he has too many projects and doesn't see this one getting complete and hates to see it melt into the earth.  Chris is the only one he'll consider selling this to as he knows Chris will bring it back to life and do the proper improvements along the way. So Chris picked me up and we cruised the hour away to get a look at what he was in for.....  it is a 1970 500 which had a 318 but has been switched to a 383 4 spd out of a 68.   it is missing engine parts, but the rest of the car is complete.   it will need body work (both rear quarters are shot), but when we went to look at it we lost daylight quickly and couldn't see underneath very well.  it truly was like the "barn finds" on all the latest TV shows. :coolgleamA:  car was recently moved next to the garage as they are remodeling their house and needed the garage to store everything.  he had the car covered with 4 layers, so it was wild to see what it was as they removed them all.
Chris is hoping to have the car back to his home within 2 weeks so he can start the cleaning and cataloging of parts.  I told him about this forum and I'm sure he'll be on here as soon as he gets settled.  I can't believe that I may be able to help bring back another 1970 AND he's within walking distance!
only a few pictures until he gets it home.  :2thumbs:

Great story, Matt!
Black with tan interior.  :drool5:

Does he plan on keeping it a 4-spd?

Thanks Bill!  I believe the original was white with tan, now a mixture.....  Chris would like to go Viper red with black or tan interior while keeping the black top....  he's a long way from paint so I'm sure he'll be on here looking at color choices.
