Grossly over priced.

Well let's see....

It's not a poorly done "Clone" or 'tribute' or 318 Satellite with RR decals. It's actually a real RR.
It appears to be pretty solid instead of a rust bucket. (need to see it in person)
Rock solid documentation instead of a remade fender tag and 'questions'
Nice desirable color combo. (It's not green/green)
I think there is reasonable value there.

This car is 44yrs old now and looks pretty good. A long time for what was a disposable car when it was made.

To me an unmolested original has a value that is the hardest to pin down. It's a collector value that has a small and shrinking market.

One thing is for sure though. Every time one of these are restored it increases the rarity of those few that are left.

IMHO this is something that should be detailed and preserved not restored.

I wounder how soon the cam will go flat?  Maybe he had a pro start the car? But if they did not add zinc that cam is doomed.

So someone has owned there Road Runner longer than me? Now, if I count the fact Dad bought my 68 Road Runner new, I have him by one year.

I don't understand why people think its overpriced,  the chargers aren't that much more desirable than a roadrunner as far as most muscle collectors are concerned.  An original survivor car with full documentation should be worth what he's asking without much trouble, in fact it would probably go higher in some circles.  Sure the charger has a nicer body style, and the interiors of some are a bit upgraded but the original price wasn't a huge difference from the roadrunner,  about 1200 dollars worth if i remember right.  Restored RR's seem to go for pretty close to the same as restored charger r/t's.  

I can definitely see someone paying that much for an original 383 charger if it was documented and was the original owner.    

Also, why add zinc to start the motor ken?  I've never added zinc to mine and i've let it sit 10 years between starts before, still ran good when i started it this summer.

always good to learn potential risks to the old motors, wasn't arguing with the issue, just wasn't aware of the need for it.  Its kind of like needing to change engine components to deal with the no lead gas. 

I know when i first stored my charger long term, where it sat for over a year without being started, we just poured oil in slowly through the carb until the engine died.  A year later, the car started up great after changing the plugs.  Smoked like a bitch though till it burned it all off. Since then the charger has sat for up to 10 years without being started.  I usually try to start it more often now.  Getting tired of dropping the gas tank to dump out old gas.  Still have to do that again now.

I found one Dodge brochure that describes the 1969 383 Magnum engine this way:

This engine hustles along under heads and valve gear from the 440 Magnum.

On page 18 of the same brochure, it says:
"A special 383-cu.-in. Magnum V8 is standard in the Super Bee.  This engine includes the 440 Magnum V8 heads, valve gear, hot cam, and manifolds."


There could be other marketing information (I don't have much at all from Plymouth) that spells things out a bit more, but there's at least one place where 440 heads on a 383 is mentioned.  I agree with Ken though - most Mopar guys are going to know this so it's not a "fact" worth mentioning any more than having a 4 barrel carburetor... which he did NOT spell out...

A friend of mine.  He got back from Vietnam & ordered this RR & has had it ever since.  The exterior looks far better than the engine bay.  It's a 4 gear as well all black.

My problem is they're all car show pix.  I asked him if I could put the car on the lift so I could shoot about 500 pix & him & his wife were actually honored someone was that interested.

There was a similar 4-speed car for sale in 2011, same colour combo but had a little bit more rust
