I have been AWOL from the world it seems.  I have been in college since Sept and doing that along with working full time is killing me.  Also doing some freelance journalism on the side.  So yes, my life is  :o  right now.  lol

Still have the 70 Charger, but man oh man...major issues with the electrical.  It all needs to be redone.  Did start it the other day...started right up...but one of the wires attached to the alternator began to spark...and ending up burning it right in half.  So as soon as my life settles down a little...that is next on the list.

Not giving up on my tank.  Not yet.

Hope all is well!

Fun to have you back.. Hope your studies are going well..

Don't worry, to revire a car isn't that difficult, only takes allot of time. You can do it yourself, one wire at a time or just buy a new harness from like Painleswireing, EZ wiring, etc.. I rewired my ride this winter, took about 3 days. Before you do anything, get your hands on the wiring diagram, without it you´ll be lost.. If you cant find one, send me a PM and I can send you a copy...

/Tom

DarkAngel0816

Yeppers!  That is my beast!  I will.  Right now it's in the garage and really does not look any different then that.  As soon as I get time I will scan some more.

Need to do the wiring...then fix the few parts of the frame that are bad...and my neighbor does body work.  And already told me he would work on it in the summer.

Just the wiring truely is the biggest thing that I need to get done.  And I do plan to buy total new harnesses all around.  I will feel more comfortable then.  You can tell over the years the past owners have done a lot of crap wire jobs...splicing and so forth.

If money isn't tight you can buy a stock harness (engine compartment and dash harness) from Year One.. Those harnesses are more or less "Plug & Play"....

DarkAngel0816

I did get the wiring diagram from Year One...and I saw that they had the wiring harnesses, but so does oh crap.  Cannot think of their name offhand....I am tired.  lol  The place in Indiana...they are about a hour from me so it would take away shipping fees.  But money is tight...although I may just saw screw it and buy it on credit for now.

Mefirst

Well you got the wiring diagram, so al you need is the new harness and your ready to dive into the "fun" world of rewiring a car..
-Good Luck... Ooh, and remember to also buy a pack of headache meds, they might come in handy

Hey, your headlights are showing! :D

My sister is getting ready to jump into journalism.

She's working as an intern for the Kitsap Sun right now (for all you WA people, she's covering the State Legislature), but will be looking to go national after she graduates in June.

Nice to see you back, and best of luck with the wiring! :2thumbs:

Welcome back and the other company your thinking of is Paddock. They are in Knightstown Indiana.

Also if you need any parts for the car the Mopar Swap Meet is going on today and tomorrow at the Indiana State Fair grounds. Should be able to find some things that you need there. Plus would put you into contact with a lot of Mopar people in your area.

Thanks all and yeah...not giving up on the car.
I was actually going to go to the fairgrounds this weekend, but I am sick and trying to get better as I leave for Florida on Tuesday.  Not fun stuff...probably end up at Urgent Care tomorrow.

Thanks about the color...Petty Blue...I may actually change it to a dark blue in the future, but for now it works.

I am going to check around the prices on the wire harnesses.  And I may end up trying to attempt it on my own.  With tons of headache meds.  lol

By very careful about flying if you have a sinus/ear infection.  :icon_smile_dead:

I learned that fact the hard way, and almost destroyed one of my ear drums (permanent hearing damage) when an 'assembly line' doc told me I'd be ok to fly.  :flame:

Got a mega-chewing out from my regular doc when I got home and had her check out my ear 'cause of a stabbing pain. :icon_smile_blackeye:

Just a friendly bit of advice.  :yesnod:

Either way, have a safe flight and enjoy the sun!

You are the second person to tell me that today and you know?  I have so much stuff going on I did not even think about it.  Hence why I am not waiting until Monday to see my doctor...just going to the Urgent Care place tomorrow.  Start meds...so yes...advice taken.  For that is what I have right now.

And I plan to soak up some alcohol....oops...I mean sun!!  LOL  No for real...it shall be fun.  I used to live in Orlando so it will be nice to get out of town...away from work and school...and see old friends.

Thanks!  A cool car that needs work (like they all do right?)...but if it takes me ten years...so be it.  lol

I had someone offer to buy it again from me today.  And you know what?  While it frustrates me (for you all probably remember how there was the very well hidden issues with it)...every time I step in the garage...I get this feeling of pride.  That my childhood dream is sitting there...mine mine mine.  lol

My Mom and I were actually laughing for my family thinks at times that I got in over my head with it...but like she said...last summer when we were driving it into town for the classic car show they have on Sat nights here...we both have the same CHEESE grins on our face.  :)

Tender love and care...that is what this car is getting from me.  Unless Chip wants to steal it...for OverHaulin'.  lol

Some tips:

Patiente with wiring. Oftenly is better remove it completelly from the car, and work comfortably on it on a table to make a clean job. FREQUENTLY electrical issues are so easy to fix, just replacing terminals or solding here and there that spend $500 on harnesses is juss waste money IMHO. AND WILL REMOVE OLD WIRING ANYWAY to make change so you will have same job at taht point.

Only harness that maybe worths the money to change completely is the engine harness since heat of course damage the rubber cover and break it easily. Also helps rust and dust stuff.

The charging system on our cars are mostly the BIG headache. Easy to fix, just replacing the just those wires, terminals and running an extra parallel wires throurght firewall with grommet if you decide to upgrade with a powerfull alt ( 80-90 amps is enough from the 40-60 amp stock ones ) Mopars have high output alts used on any laters 70s Cars, mostly equipped with A/C. heavier gauge is teh best, around 8 gauge what working joined to the stock 12 gauge will get a great "highway" to the electrical stuff. That is if you want to keep working your original ammeter Mopar system.

any question, I'm here what I think I have learnt some about electrical stuff on Mopars with mine... same as several members plenty of helpfull.

did they happen to change the rubber they used to coat the wire between 2ed gen and 3rd gen.
When I took my car appart I was amazed at how much of the rubber coating on the wires was dry, cracked thru to the bare wire and beginning to sepperate where ever there was more than a 90 degree bend. there was some places where there was about 1/32ed of an inch of bare wire showing.
I was shocked!!
