Well with the horrible economy and not having deep pockets I have lost my buisness .

Very depressing , feeling like a failure and  that the last 9 plus years have all been a huge waste of time and money .

I have lost all my saving and most of my muscle car collection trying to hold on to this place  .

Justifying it as i was building for the future and for my family .  Now everything is lost should have called it quits 3-4 years ago but its a hard decision to make when you have so much time and money infested .  You feel like your damned if you do and damned is you dont.

Sorry for the heavy story just needed to get some of the frustration out  and you guys are like family and always great listeners  .

Sad to hear, buddy :pity:  Times are tough for everyone. I've seen a few businesses here go out here as well.  Some of them have been around for decades.  We even had a grocery store go out.

I don't know what the future brings, but hope it works out in your favor.

You are NOT a failure buddy! You made that business work for 9 years! That says a lot about your character, work ethic and tenacity. Like your family and friends I'm damn proud of you.

What type of business was it?  I'm sorry to hear about someone else going through financial hardship, the economy of the last 4 years has been disastrous for many.  I was out of work for almost 2 years, finally found a temp/contract job that lasted six months, and now I'm out of work again.  At least the last six months was enough to carry me and the family over for another year.  In my case most of the difficulty is that i'm not willing to relocate for new jobs, i'm in the strongest market area of the state, and the wife works but now she's at risk of losing her job as well.

One of my close friends in the area has run a auto interior shop for the last 20 years, and while he never got rich at it, it kept him going.  But the depressed economy killed his business off in the last 3 years, and he finally broke down, closed his shop and took a job a local car dealership.  We met when we both took a car sales job when i first came to Jacksonville.

Again, sorry to hear about your situation.  The past 9 years wasn't a waste, it let you do what you wanted to do and make a living while doing so.  I wish i could do the same.  Maybe things will change in the future and the economy will pick up, isn't it strange that while republicans were in office, even though we had bad years, they always turned it around in 6 months to a year, but with democrats in charge 7% unemployment is the new normal?  I was employed through rough times before, but never such long layovers between jobs as in the last 4 years.  (I am a software QA analyst....meaning I Test software before it goes to end users....the government could have used people like me before their healthcare fiasco)

Sorry to hear this.  When one door closes others open.  You now may have opportunities that your business would not have allowed :2thumbs:

I am really sorry to hear this news.  I don't know if you want another one telling you to hang in there and try again when the opportunity presents itself.  The way I see it, you made it work for a long time and should be able to make it work again some time in the future.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Stu, I am sorry to hear this. If you do not have something lined up already, hopefully you will be able to find something soon.

Im sorry to hear about this Stuart. You will make it. I was self employed for about 5 years back in the 90s and had to find a way to pay taxes and payroll and close my doors. All I got out of it was knowledge. Now I work for someone else and let them do the worrying. Again I am really sorry to hear about this. If you need to unwind and have a beer let me know im in belton.

Thanks everyone for the support  , I have been in auto parts sales all my life and already have several offers so no worries about a job . My wife has a great job so that is why i was able to stick it out so long .   I didnt take home a check for the last three years , so working for free sucked .  It will be nice to be bringing home a regular check again .  Just really depressing losing all my buisness partner and I worked so hard for .

Sorry Mr Padasso.      :pity:    trying and failing is not a failure.  The failure would've been never trying.    The economy being in the toilet is not a failure on your part Stu.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Sorry to hear about this Stu. I was self-employed for 20 years. Was a few months away from losing everything back in the 90-93 recession so I know the emotional roller coaster you are on. Glad to see that you already have something lined up.
