Most of mine were about the same as yours.

We had another light year, nothing like we had 10 years ago when we were bombarded for 3 hours straight.  Mostly very young kids this year, maybe totalled 40.  During busier years we'd get 3 to 400.  Things have changed alot.  Probably half said thank you, I don't really mind if they don't say it, they're kids after all.  Such a change from when I was young though, in 3 hours i could come home with a pillowcase 2/3 full and too heavy to tote around and that was with people handing out one item apiece, I was tossing two to 4 pieces per visitor just to get rid of the items I didn't want to eat.  Now i get to eat the kit Kats, nestle crunch bars, milky ways and Reeses that are left over.

We had good ones too.

A number did a double take because we decided to hand out large candy bars.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I seriously considered buying a box of giant reeses peanut butter cups, the ones with 4 in each pack.  Then thought twice and figured we'd only get a few small kids who wouldn't care ayway.  So went to fun size and tossed handfuls instead.  We usually turn the lights off at 9:30pm, only people that show up after that time are teenagers that are really too old to be trick or treating anyway.  Our 17 year old youngest daughter went to a party tonight, let her stay out till midnight which is later than we should have, city curfew for her age is 11pm.

we had 60 kids. we average 50-70, so 60 was perfect. we decorate the yard alot, and hand out microwave popcorn, pixie sticks and candy bars and a glow in the dark bracelet to each kid. the wife gets pretty generous when handing it out. i think she has  more fun with it than the kids.

the kids really like the glow bracelets too. :2thumbs:

OMG! that's like a small army.

My sister in law bought lots of lolly pops this year and didn't get a single caller.  :shruggy: She was sitting home all night listening for the doorbell to ring.  For a brief moment she thought she had the wrong day.

She hasn't decided yet whether she'll eat them herself or save them for next year.

thats why you always buy candy that you would prefer to eat yourself.  real men can't suck on a lollypop, i've seen lollypops sit around the house for years till i got tired of looking at them and threw them out.

If you tell me what real men like to suck on, I'll let her know so she gets it right for next year.  :popcrn:

My sis in law said the same thing. Had she known no one was going to come knocking, she would have bought some lovely chocolates.

About the only thing you'll catch me sucking on is a Slurpee straw, or a milkshake, trying to get it through a straw that is always too skinny for ice cream.

I do like to slowly eat tootsie rolls, doesn't involve much sucking though.

From past years experience of no trick or treaters, we stocked up on full sized snickers bars. I would have been upset if this year hailed kids in droves. But, alas, nary a one.  :D

We've lived in our house since it was built in 2002 and we had more this year than ever for some reason. Last year was as dead as it's ever been, maybe a total of a dozen or so, and this year I'd estimate we had more than 60. And they were pretty polite here too. My oldest daughter sifted off the "crappy" candy and put it in a special bowl for the 16-year-old hoodie moochers but we never got any of those this time. The thing that was odd this year was that probably 3-4 of the moms and dads were holding up bags for candy right next to their kids. One of the dads reaked of cigarettes and other than a lousy rubber mask he was dressed in his regular street clothes.
