First off GOD BLESS THIS COUTRY, and the hard working Detroit assembly line go getter's, grocery shelf stockers, big rig truck drivers.. that make this country proud of what it is.  Pretty much the Americans that bust their butts for me and you to keep the higher class paid.

well... I tell you i came from a very small town in the north east where every one knew everyone.. where your neighbors would bend over backwards to help you in the middle of the night if you needed.

It seems like alot has changed sense then. and i don't know who to blame but myself.

or maybe us as Americans have began to be to soft, to allowing , or not having the courage and statue that our forefathers ones comprised
when did we stop punishing our children and allow the sheriff to run wild with corruption.

when our common courtesy to one another is diminished our brother and sisters reap nothing but hardship.

But seriously guys what happened?

People tend to look at the past through rose colored glasses. I too lived in a small northeastern town where everyone knew each other. There were lots of "secrets" around town. People either didn't have the balls to speak out, or feared their own indiscretions would get dragged out into public in the process.

Yes, things are changing. As they always have, they will continue beyond your window of life. Your choice is to adapt, or hold on to a past that no longer exists and will no longer exist as it was ever again.

-People that are trash outnumber the good ones, simply put.
-Now with technology & the internet the trash is easier to see warping some perspectives

Also common decency is often taken advatge of by people that like to think they "got one over on that sucker"
Alot of really weird & disturbing people walking around these days..

I believe the way the media persuade the blind has a huge responsibility for my generations behavior

Damn Sarg, you're way to young to be so cynical.  Of course that doesn't mean your observations are not correct.

Buck up!  You're young.  Enjoy your life and your times.   They go by way too fast.     :Twocents:

I imagine if you went back in time in 50-year increments each generation would say "what the hell happened to my country?"
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Gee, my pappy worked 2 or more jobs to keep a roof over the heads of 5 children and had no problem tanning our bottoms when we got into trouble. Needless to say I preferred to stay out of trouble as did all my siblings. You know what they say about excuses, like a rear exhaust pipe, we all have one.

So true.

It is interesting to watch the TV show "All in the Family". That show was cutting edge at the time and I remember in the 70's the discussions between the elders of the family and the younger adults was almost exactly what that show depicted. It was very real, and that is why it was such a success. Watch those 40+ year old shows and they could easily have been made today. Nothing has really changed. Only our perception.

single parents, uneducated public voting for unqualified candidates, and too much free access to information on the internet has ruined much of what we used to deal with ourselves.  Kids think they are owed everything, and many are spoiled way too much.  I know mine have been over spoiled by one of the parents in the house.  The next generation is in for a surprise when they enter the work force and realize that noone owes them anything, and noone is paying for everything anymore like it was while living at home.

It is true. Every new generation (20years or so) is divided from the previous by changes that happen as our close living with each other changes.

The new communication technology we are now living with makes what used to be a small family or community into a group that is way too big to feel intimate with.

The news (in order to be news) is always a downer.

We are the same folks that preceded us for hundreds of thousands of years.

What is new is that there are too many strangers telling us how we should live our lives. They may have good intentions but need to butt out and live their lives as best they can while living in the same pot of soup. (trying to change others behavior is a no win exercise and a waste of their living energy).

Why is this a surprise? There were some pretty smart guys 'back in the day'. We are apathetic about their warnings and have gotten what we deserve through lack of attention.

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.-Alexis de Tocqueville (29 July 1805 – 16 April 1859)

Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.-Alexis de Tocqueville

The health of a democratic society may be measured by the quality of functions performed by private citizens.-Alexis de Tocqueville

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.-Ben Franklin

If we can but prevent the government from wasting the labours of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they must become happy.-Thomas Jefferson

America is no longer a democracy. It is not a socialist country (never will be). We are actually a republic.

The high profile members of the US Government are nothing but cast members in a theater production to distract the masses.

The real power is in the banking/financial institutions. It has been that way for much of the 20th century-present. They have the final say. They began conditioning this country to be a nation of consumers by the 1940's.

Money runs this country and everyone in its life. The laws on the books that dictate your life are bought and sold. Votes are bought and sold. The entire system as it exists today is a failure. It is far too vulnerable for corruption. It needs a complete overhaul from stem to stern. No more parties. No more influence from banks, industry, churches, etc. Decisions must be made solely for the greater good of the land and the people.

Cell phones aren't a luxury in 2013.  They are cheaper than a tank of gas and practically required to hold even the most low-level jobs.  Land lines have become overpriced since cells took over.  Public pay phones are extinct.

Ghoste

Which is why the working taxpayer should provide them as part of the welfare package.

I would add corporate America to the scourge of the banking and financial entities. These are the government, they call the shots and dictate how we live and what our values should be hence our societal morality. The US is now suffering the results of a "drop out" generation. One without a basic working education, a solid work ethic or even a vague understanding of what that means. Add the notion of gross self-entitlement (not SSI or Medicare), a legal structure thats fair only for those who can buy it, the absence of moderation, higher education out of reach for most and the overall breakdown of the moral compass that guided the behavior of past generations. (and my run-on sentences)

Speaking of land, private property and genuine quality of life public improvements to our towns and cities, the citizenry who have paid for these things will be the firsts ones prosecuted for defending that which is belongs to all of us. God forbid we attempt to hold responsible those who vandalize and destroy them. Individual right ands liberties are being taken away and trod upon by the ultra liberal, politically correct brain trust in what they tout as being in the best interest of society.

Its true that generations before us asked themselves what the hell was happening to the country but the cancer that touches all of us is a whole other ball game.
