69 Charger 500 rotting in a Storage Shed

I don't know what else to call it.  It isn't a "Barn Find".  I've known about this car for a while, but they finally let me see it.  A real 69 Charger 600.  440 car.  It was dipped and cleaned about 4 or 5 years ago, then rolled into this storage area..... and never primered or such.  And now it is actually rusting away.  All the parts are behind it and in another compartment.  But I thought you guys would like to see it, since I haven't found anything on it anywhere.

Enjoy

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

C500

Same build date as mine. Sad to see work not progressing and the tin worm slowly eating away.
"An aggressive exterior with power to match was enough to pull in the performance boys-especially when abetted by a pair of pipes blaring out the back, and brawny red-sidewall rubber hitting the pavement."

"........the four speed box changes cogs with the precision of a sharp axe striking soft pine."

, !! maybe there is a reason , owner got sick / or someone died  or  something & could not continue with the resto ,   if not !!  that's more insanity :brickwall: :RantExplode: :flame:   :image_294343:  ,  should of sprayed / diped it in etch primer , or just left it & not dipped it ,

Fair enough, but we all (should) know that bare metal begins to oxidize very quickly, once you had it cleaned how long does it really take to shoot some coating on there to save it if you need to set the project aside for awhile?

yeah that's true , got to be something serious like a quick over night type illness or family emergency ,  other wise every one knows  soon as anything is in bare metal / blasted , weather you touch it or not should be etched  straight away ,   :Twocents:  , there are exceptions to this !! leaving it in a heated shop / garage etc , then it should still be etched ,  :Twocents:   how many times  do you see unfinished projects on ebay in a various states of repair !! in the ad it says  was blasted  , you look at it & its all rusty again ,  or new floors have been welded in , &  been left in bare metal !! &  have flash rusted  !! crazy , IMO ,

It happened to a Shelby that belongs to a close friend of mine.

TheAutoArchaeologist

I don't know why it wasn't put in primer.  I had just heard stories about this thing for years.

No wonder I never found anything, I never looked up just the last few digits of the vin.  Sorry.

I did not, it was not on the car.  Probably in a box somewhere around it.

It is not owned by Steve K anymore.

Aero426

Unless you have your own storage building, that thing is chewing up cash every month taking up two units.

Hopefully this one can get out of storage jail and straightened back out.

Damn, I mean damn.  Well I hope that the owner of this car gets it together.  It won't be for 1.5-2 years.... but he will eventually.

Highbanked Hauler

The car could use a couple gallon bath of Ospho, that would keep the rust at bay as long as the car doesn't get wet. I used Ospho on my sons car and it works very well.

I've never heard of the product HH, where do you get it?

held1823

i'd never heard of it either, but looks like it's been around since 1947.

is it similar to por-15? perhaps i should apply some to the rust on the window plug here.

a four gallon case is the mimimum order to buy direct, although they give a list of possible retailers on their website.

You can get it at most  Sherwin Williams paint stores in quarts or gallons.  Use a heavy duty spray bottle and  soak the surface and let it sit and dry. till you get ready to paint. google the directions to it and see if it fits your needs.  :Twocents:

I agree, good stuff. I've been using it for over 15 years.  :2thumbs: It would remove/halt and neutralize that rust. A coat of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator afterwards and that car could sit for years and years.

Magnumcharger

I had my Charger dipped and media blasted back in 2005, when I lived out west. Upon trailering it home, I immediately sprayed it top to bottom with LPS3. I put the car into storage for a few years in a container, then retrieved it and flat decked it all the way to the east coast, through numerous torrential rainstorms and even a couple of snow storms. When I got it back home, I put it back on the rotisserie and its been there in my garage in the moist climate for four years. Its still bare metal, with no signs of rust at all.
The product has a bit of an orange tint to it. It has a waxy film that seems pliable.
It takes lacquer thinner or gasoline on a rag to remove it, or you can use the manufacturer's removal spray.
