not gonna lie, that 69 danko grille makes me consider getting a late model charger... only if i found one for like 500$... and had room... and cared for anything built after 1987

Yep, that's the one.   :drool5:   They seem to do good work.  I wish Dodge would go that route.

I would have almost forgiven the 4 doors had the car looked like that in the front in 2006, but with the 2011 taillights, hood, and side lines.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Looks chunky, IMO.    :Twocents:

Pretty much all new cars look chunky, and they have ever since everyone started copying the 2000 Ford Focus. Practically every car on the road in the past decade or so looks like a Focus variant to me (exaggerated "chunkiness" combined with mimicking the Focus' "New Edge" styling). Before that, practically everything looked like a 1986 Ford Taurus variant.

I blame women. They tend to think chunky is "cute": chunky babies, chunky shoes, chunky cars ...

50 years ago creativity & risk-taking was the name of the game in automotive styling.  We like to remember the grand slams in 1968-71 and conveniently forget stuff like the 1962 models.

But today the costs of a restyle are much higher. And the stylists are painted into a corner by too many other engineering concerns.  A styling job has to last for several years.  A few foul-ups like the Pontiac Aztek will send Chrysler crawling back to Obama on their knees asking for another bailout.

The only group of people who think the existing Charger needs fixing are guys like us.  We aren't the majority.  Mopar will probably continue to prefer a guaranteed base hit over a possible home run.

I agree with this.--

There is a new group of designers coming on line and up to speed in their job every day and they may be eager to please those they report to.
If the newbees get shut out than that is that.  The decision on what goes and what doesn't is made by a big ugly mess of folks that are all thinking different things.

IMHO the new challenger did for the old one what we would like to see in a new charger. (I would also like to add another opinion --that the new challenger is an improvement on the style of the 70+ year style.

If they only could get everyone involved together something good could happen.

My optimism on this is rather low because an important part of the chargers look comes from how long the car is. :Twocents:

the Americans know nothing about great automobiles,
I'm sure the 'average' american doesn't. after all, pacer and gremlin sold well.

Quote from: Ghosteand lastly this bizarre notion that every car in a line must have the same grille in order to establish brand identity.
I've never understood Chrysler's thinking, unless they think the Dodge brand is SO unknown that you need to link them all to just to show some road presence. i can understand a small maker needing to do this, like Ssangyong, but Dodge? All they achieve is restricting their designers from achieving a zen design. nothing worse than a car that looks like it has a truck face.

I've never understood Chrysler's thinking...

I understood it between about 1940 and 1974.

Hell yeah.  :drool5:

Sorry, but the only thing retro about that is the round lights (and the indents in the hood which are already on the current sedan...)

Who says it needs to be retro?  :shruggy:

Personally I think it's a styling improvement over the current large fish-mouthed cross hair grille.
Whether or not it becomes the actual 2015 model we'll just have to wait & see.

A couple in their late 50's parked their new Charger next to my 69 and got out to compare all the similarities.   :brickwall:

What can you say, politely agree is all you can do.

Um, lets see, two posts above mine you'll find this:

"hell yeah, indeed!!   2thumbs

link to story... http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/2013/10/charger-getting-retro-modern-grille"

Note the words "charger-getting-retro-modern-grille" in the link (which is the heading of the story/article)

Thus my response concerning the lack of retro-edness......

Oh, and that picture is not going to "become the actual 2015 model", it's not an official image, it was done by a gal who posts on allpar.  She doesn't work for Chrysler.

I'm sorry, but that Danke frontend looks  :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

I do like the 2nd rendition of the 15 frontend, but only time will tell what Chrysler/Fiat will actually put out.

It does look like SRT is wanting to phase out the crosshair grille.  Almost every Dodge they have put out, it has the blacked out grille.  Even on the Vipers, the crosshair grille has been completely redesigned and actually looks like an afterthought. They done away with it on the Challengers, so the door is open if Chrysler does want to get rid of it.  The only problem is that the crosshair grille has been on a Dodge since the late 70's Magnum.  Losing the crosshair grille would mean that they'd have to give themselves a new identifying feature.

I'm sure some might buy that hideous turd. Not I...if your gonna use the 'retro' name then at least try not to make it look like a damn Audi.
We give the F&f croud hell for dorkin up a Mits. Eclipse then we run out and buy one with a Charger nameplate on it...
