If that red one is the redesign I am definitely liking it.  :yesnod:

My wife commented that pretty soon we'll be out of the minivan stage, she was drooling over the Daytona models.  :scratchchin:

I like. With a bit of luck, I'll be able to buy that here.

p/s I just googled 2015 Dodge charger and I don't come up with anything that looks like that. (the red one, I mean)  :shruggy:

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Per allpar.com

That's not real, it's a modification of this picture of a 2011 Dodge St. Regis II. The modification was presumably done by "Suzq044". It does look better than the Ram/Dakota/Durango grille though.

bill440rt

Well, that sucks. I like that rendition the best of what I've seen.

Here's more possibilities:

The next restyle will probably take another mild step towards the '68-70 car while keeping the modern Ram truck crosshair front end.  No risk, no aero violations, no loss of the modern signature Mopar look, and no big additional success either.

From their point of view the existing car isn't broken.  I doubt they will risk much to fix it.

UH60L

I won't even talk about the side profile problem.....

But the front end of that sedan has looked horrid since 2006 (though the current version is better...)

Problem is, it isn't just the grille that makes it look like a truck, it's the way the hood rolls to the fenders too.

Sure, fix/change the grille, but flatten out the hood and fenders too, or it really won't help much.

That said, I guess it's time for me to go make a new thread on chargerforums.com about my '69......

That 'JackRatchett' guy really needs to lay off the meth when he's using photoshop.  His renederings are nothing short of hideous.

[ŌŌ]ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ[ŌŌ] = 68
[ŌŌ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ŌŌ] = 69
(ŌŌ)[ƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗ](ŌŌ) = 70

Allpar states:

The latest fashion in car design is the "dual grille," where a small grille is placed in the usual position just under the hood, with a massive gaping hole underneath which is presumably the actual air opening for the radiator. To a small degree, Dart uses the dual-grille form, but Ford has been the biggest adopter of "tiny grilles above massive ones," following the Aston Martin look. For Charger to take this route will make it somewhat more consistent with the Dart, albeit very far indeed from Challenger.

According to Chrysler insiders, the Charger will also be adopting the dual-grille look, in the first major departure from the original "new Charger" face. What's more, the new front fascia will start up in model-year 2015, meaning that in less than a year, assuming no delays, we should be seeing it on the street.

As reported earlier, the new 2015 Dodge Charger will almost certainly have a standard eight-speed automatic across the board, the latest UConnect 2 system with automatic updates sent over the wire and stronger cell-phone integration, and whatever other goodies Chrysler can throw at it.

bull

Going on 9 years with the new "Charger" and people (including those who work at Chrysler) are still trying to sneak up on a likeness of the 2nd gen design. It's as if everyone wants it but there's a squad of thugs waiting to beat them down if they get too close. I wish they'd poop or get off the pot already.

Ghoste

I agree.  I think the real car guys keep getting beat out by a cadre of European masters who feel the Americans know nothing about great automobiles, a group of marketing experts who really know nothing about cars but everything about what their sales professors taught them and do not care about cars from decades before they were born, and lastly this bizarre notion that every car in a line must have the same grille in order to establish brand identity.  My last point really ties into my second one but if they must cling to the idea, why did they decide to saddle all of the Dodge cars with that minivan/pickup grille? (I know its because those were the lead sellers but it wasn't because of the grille and when I see a Caravan grille on a car I don't automatically think "oh, it has the same grille as the segment leading minivan therfore it must be realted and also a winner, I just think UGH.  No matter what their textbook says)

UH60L

Exactly what Bull and Ghoste said.  I agree 100%.

In fact, it was those marketing gurus that came up with the idea of using "charger" in the first place, based on a study of recognizable old Dodge names.  (gee, I wonder why people recognized that one?.........)

On a side note, Danko reproductions is working on a '69 style front end for the 2006 to 2010 sedan that is pretty sweet.  (it's on their facebook page)  If they put it on the 2011+ version, the only thing left would be door problem, and I'm sure that, in time, someone will create a proper custom conversion. I am always amazed at what fabricators can create for cars.  There are some pretty creative people out there.

Yes, but the picture you posted is just an unofficial Photoshop of this picture of a 2011, made by "suzq044" (Susan Rand).

Exactly. If you make an iconic car you don't need brand identity. How many different types of grilles and body lines could be found on the muscle car era Mopars? None of them had the same grilles and there was very little similarity in the body lines except for the Satellite/Roadrunner submodels. Some were worlds apart design wise. Put a 68 Charger next to a 68 Barracuda and a 68 D-100 and other than the marker lights and a few other small items you can't tell what's what. They weren't even concerned with putting the word "Dodge" anywhere on the Charger from 68-70. But people found out because the cars looked great and they wanted to know. I guess now people don't care because everything looks the same. :shruggy: Less was more back then, now it's so in-your-face they'll build and market 'ugly' as long as it's considered familiar.

50 years ago creativity & risk-taking was the name of the game in automotive styling.  We like to remember the grand slams in 1968-71 and conveniently forget stuff like the 1962 models.

But today the costs of a restyle are much higher. And the stylists are painted into a corner by too many other engineering concerns.  A styling job has to last for several years.  A few foul-ups like the Pontiac Aztek will send Chrysler crawling back to Obama on their knees asking for another bailout.

The only group of people who think the existing Charger needs fixing are guys like us.  We aren't the majority.  Mopar will probably continue to prefer a guaranteed base hit over a possible home run.

bill440rt

I actually prefer the front end of the previous model Charger vs the current offering, which to me just looks too exaggerated.
If Allpar is on target with a new Dart-like front fascia for the '15 re-design, then I may be in line. It would be refreshing to lose the big cross-hair design for a change.
