Are 68 Alternators Positioned Differently on AC cars?

Need a little help if possible on my Charger.

For many years I have had a 71 AC bracket setup that I pulled off a junk car many years ago. I was at a show recently and noticed that Mega Parts had a complete bracket assembly kit available for 67 & 68 Big Blocks that was completely different then what I have been running. In an effort to make my engine compartment look a little more 'stock' I bought the kit, but when I tried to install it it seems to position my alternator about the distance of 1 pulley grove too far back. So now the front pulley groove on the alternator lines up with the rear pulley groove on the A/C and crank pulleys.

I can't seem to find anything that says a different crank pulley and A/C mounting was used on 69 and up big blocks, but maybe it was?? Is this kit no good? Do I need a different alternator with a pulley that extends farther out?

Links to to the two kits they have -

69-72 Big Block with Air - http://www.megapartsusa.com/proddetail.asp?prod=101-ABK1746B-KIT&cat=18 (this is what I had on the engine)

When I contacted Mega Parts about this, they were not sure if this kit shifted the alternator towards the rear of the engine.
Thanks!

I thought 68 and 69 setups were the same.  Got a pic?

With my setup (69) I can move the alt back and forth by changing the position of the alt relative to the bracket.  You can have the long bolt that goes into the head go through the bracket first and then the two alt ears, or you can have the bolt go through the first ear, then through the bracket and then through the second ear.  That will displace the alt by about a half inch.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

yes 68 is different
this is with after market compressor & alternator, but the same basis set up for 68

A quick update -
I borrowed a laser light that casts a wide flat beam and used it to see how far off the pulleys are. According to the laser they are not as far off as the straight edge I was using to judge this. I will get a couple of the longer belts and see what happens.
Until then - Thanks for the replies   :2thumbs:

What's going on with the coil in that 'pic above?  Looks like it's just...hanging out there in front of the manifold?

The distributor is missing also lol...    i still need to get a coil bracket, everything bolted to this engine is just a mock up for the future power plant. :icon_smile_big:
