I have a 68 charger that I have been restoring put a lot of time in her she's not done yet but my wife and I ran I to hard times and I have an offer to buy for 5k I don't really want to sell but it would make things easier for a bit just torn what I should do

Mytur Binsdirti

Jesus man, screw the car and do what's right for your family. Do you really need to come on the internet to ask such a question from faceless strangers?  ::)

riggs626

Well the reason I'm asking is in a week I sell my truck which would solve our. Problems selling the charger would be temporary

A charger is like family, so if you sell it go for 10k.. or at least the market for said condition.
5k doesn't get a whole lot of 68 charger nowadays.

My first thought about this is with Mytur.  The charger is a hobby. It could even be a passion but you can return to your hobby/passion after your family issues are addressed.

Another thought is about the offer you had for 5K.  Does the person making the offer know about your hurting for cash?
I do hate hearing about taking an unnecessary beating in an already bad situation. And usually what seems urgent at the time is not so much.

Do the right thing but do it slow and easy :2thumbs:

ok, i say that your family and life become first. but.........since we are all such good friends here, post pic's of all that you are offering to sell for the 5k figure and see if your friends want it for 5k first. :shruggy:

Not just no, but HELL no. I'd get rid of my wife before I'd get rid of my Chargers... Oh wait, I already did that.  :D

If a guy is "offering" 5k then he probably thinks it's worth more.
Don't let him make money off your tight spot

I agree with the others. It's a good idea to get rid of a car when the family needs some cash but only for it's true value. If you are going to sacrifice (and you are) make sure you are getting fair value. There's always another car around the corner but why sell for $5k when it will cost you $10k when you go to replace it.

make it as complete as possible so you get a fair price. assemble it if it is in boxes.

life is funny, you are down this year but in 2 years things will be different. you can always get another car. think of it this way... now you have more experience and the finished product will be better the next time around.

Post some pics. Unless it's a complete basket case the offer of 5k sounds like someone trying to take advantage of your situation.

Do you plan on trying to get back into a classic Charger later in life?  If so, keep in mind it will cost you that much more than what you have into it now to do so.  You mentioned that you could sell your truck and take care of your problems?  Then hold out, because if money problems and your Charger are hand in hand now, it will only be worse for you in the future...

I tend to agree.

Well, if you need the money that the car would bring when sold then its a no brainer. Family always goes first. If you are just short of money to fund a restoration project at this point, then I would keep it.
While garaged and untouched these things don't cost any money. Who knows what life throws in your lap in another 2 years to get going again

Probably someone who named the car Bryce.  They'll start up a thread here soon about how a beautiful Charger followed them home and their dreams of Charger ownership have been realized.  Then, we'll see an ebay auction for the car in short order...

I needed money real bad back in 07 when I lost my job and I could have sold my car for easy cash but there's no way in hell I would sell that car..Instead,I thought about ways to make money. So I searched Craigslist and found a sandblaster for $25 and bought 2 bags of sand which was all the cash I had.I had $30.I posted a ad on Craigslist offering a sandblasting service and my inbox was blowing up.So I made $500 that week and kept doing it till I got something else.Im still the only sandblaster in my area and do it time to time.

Moral of the story is,there is always another way instead of parting with your car.
