I was just wondering if any of you have had experience with the manual exhaust cutouts like in the link, are they ok at keeping leaks out when closed up? I'm aware of the electric ones but I don't really want to spend all that money on them as they work out quite expensive after shipping to the UK etc, thanks

if you use good quality gaskets on the end caps, you should be OK....if you plan on taking the caps off a lot, get a few sets of gaskets

I have them on my 69, no leaks, no problems. Accept unscrewing when hot, sucks.

Gotta be at least a little better than opening or closing a regular headers into tailpipe exhaust system when its hot though?

Thanks, I assume they come with a set of gaskets ?

I would assume so also...but probably cheap ones that won't last maybe more than a couple of times taking them off...which is why I said pick up some extras

Guy came in with a set on a Corvette. Cable operated that was hard to operate. They leaked. Sounded like sh*t.
You have been warned.

A sliding gate should work.(screw  operated).   I guess this idea is in between the unbolt the plate and the push the button electric method.

I've only really heard them open on cars at drag racing events etc, does the engine need to be high performance etc for them to sound good as my 440 it's pretty much stock ? I've looked at some Youtube videos and some of them with open headers sound rubbish

I have a set of cutouts on mine. I use a set of Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets which are reusable and it seals up fine.  :2thumbs:

A high performance engine will sound good with manifolds, headers, open headers, a potato or two rammed up the pipe, a Boeing coming in for a landing next door and the fall of the Berlin wall.  A non high performance engine sounds good with an exhaust, that's it.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

There is a significant difference between the sound of raw power of a high comp engine, with or without cutouts, and the sound of pure noise i.e the sound of an open low comp engine. Just my  :Twocents:
