Question: Super Commando Clone???

I love this board and the expertise you all have...so here's a question I have been pondering for a while.

What would it take to make a Super Commando clone?

I have a '68 Charger with a 440 - and I absolutely love the "Super Commando" name that I have seen on other Chargers.

From what I understand, the Super Commando was an engine specification.
Is it possible to modify my Charger so I can justify placing a "Super Commando" sticker on the air filter cover or is that cheesy?
???

I thought that the super comando was the name that plymouth used like 440 magnum.

Oh, really? I thought it was Dodge and Plymouth, maybe the ones I have seen were in Roadrunners. I'can't remember correctly.

Well, I guess I'll have to wait until I get a 'Cuda some day.

:yesnod:

Like Dodge used '440 Six Pack' and Plymouths used '440 Six Barrel'.

OK, how about a 440 Magnum Clone?

A possibility?

I think I saw that Mopar offers a crate engine 440 "Super Commando" - would that be sacreligious to put it in a Charger?

But the confusing thing is that there was a 383 Magnum and a 440 Magnum - what gives?

If your 440 is original you already have a Magnum.

It's just the name
If it is a hi-po 440 4barrel carb-
440 TNT = Chrysler
440 Super Commando = plymouth
440 MAgnum = Dodge.

Get yourself an air cleaner "tin " that says Super Commando on it. They cost about $35.

I believe I've seen "coyote duster" tins also - specific to the roadrunner.

Magnum describes the number of carbs, I believe there is also a 360 Magnum available from www.mopar.com

The 440 in a Plymouth is as Super Commando. In a Dodge its a Magnum. This is how I got my board name. In 1970 I took a 440 six pack out of a wrecked 1969.5 Super Bee and put it into my 1968 road runner. So its a six pack engine in a Plymouth. Never mind no 6 packs in 1968, but the fact an engine that was in a Dodge winds up in a Plymouth. I used to laugh when people asked what was in the car and I'd say 440 six pack. They'd try to correct me by saying 6 barrel. I'd tell them the story and the arguements would begin.
So stick a Super Commando pie pan on your 440 and watch the purists howl.

That is priceless
anything to make the purists howl is good to go ;D

Better yet put a 440 Super Commando pie tin over a 440 TNT pie tin over a 440 Magnum pie tin.....then you got all the bases covered.  ;D

How about put a 440 Magnum pie tin on a 318?  Think anyone would notice?
