Hi,

anyone know where I can get decent priced insurance for my 1969 Dodge Charger R/T. Value of car is $30k. I want full coverage. Problem is that it is my only car. Seem like it gets A LOT cheaper if you have a daily drive in addition to your classic car. My daily drive is a Cannondale Bay Boy http://www.cannondale.com/2012-bad-boy-9-20108, and that doesn't really count.. :P

Cheapest insurance my agent could find was $1,600 for 6 month, which sucks as I know I could pay $400 or so per year if I had a daily drive. Anyone else have their Charger as their only car and still pay cheap insurance?

Thanks!
Erlend

I'd go ahead and buy another vehicle if possible.  I'd look more into a truck though instead of a car.  It'll get around the same mileage as your charger and be able to haul parts if you need them.

My first thought as well. The cheap beater would pay for itself compared to insurance costs in short time.
Try American Collectors Insurance also. Highly recommended.

'OP you don't even have a choice in regards to getting another car to drive; AFAIK classic car insurance companies will not insure your Charger if it's your daily driver.

Secondly, I don't know what shape your car is in, but if it's in "good" shape you'll want to get that car insured for more than $30K on an "agreed value policy."  Why?  Because, in the event of a total loss, God forbid, it will take you at least $40K to get back into another Charger in as good a condition as the car you have now.  I have my car valued at $49K.  Is it worth even half of that?  Definitely not, but I know that if I try to get into another Charger with a straight body, good paint, configured the way I like it and strong enough to be a daily driver like mine is right now, it will cost me something in the high 40's "at least."  Insure the car to the 'max-Chargers are not getting cheaper, only the opposite...

Hagerty has limitations on the beater now they said my beater had to be a certain amount of years old.  I think now its 7 years max as your driver.  I have a 95 civic beater and they wouldn't insure my 68 because the daily was too old and told me to finance a new car so that I could be insured with them with the 68.

I then got a hold of American collectors and they have less rules than Hagerty.
