what is a fair price for a true 68 RT, 4 speed, non-matching Charger, in very nice (say #2) condition in this market..... Assuming I can find one?

Thanks,

around 30K, give or take.  #2 condition is very good, just short of a trailer queen, FYI

This is by far the most asked question.

Since it is such a tough question to answer --- questions must be answered first.---

What is your motive?  ----Are you a collector?---Do you really want to own and drive one of these cars?---Are you an investor looking to make money?

Price ranges are wide in what you are asking about---20K-50K--

If you find something that makes your socks roll up and down share it with us and you will get all and more than you are asking about value.

I have 2 challengers and want a Charger.....  So I don't know if I qualify as a collector, investor, or just misguided!

I drive my cars (a lot) and have no intention of just buying one to turn it over for a profit. Im fairly on top of what a challenger is generally worth in todays market as Ive followed them for years, but my desire to find a Charger has me outside of my comfort zone...... and I just don't want to pay more than is reasonable for one.... thats why I asked the question (and I know its not easy to answer).

I bought this car recently to give you an idea.

Has original fender tag and sheet.

I paid more then I wanted to but they are few and far between for a decent car. This has done 300 miles since a full restoration.

That's a very, very nice car. Please keep me in mind when you want to sell it.    :2thumbs:

I bought this one at the end of sept for 26.5:

http://classiccars.com/listings/view/435116/1968-dodge-charger-for-sale-in-berkley-michigan-48072

It has a lot of little things wrong with it (gauges needed work, carb needs rebuilt/tune, headlight doors/grill needs work, etc), it's a 20ft er...probably a 3 as it sits.  But that's really about what I wanted.  A little more than I wanted to pay for it, a little less than he wanted to sell it for so probably a fair price.

I wanted a 68 or 70, 4 speed, no major body work or paint required. Finding one in the 20-30 range proved to be a bit of a challenge.  I spent the better part of a year trying to track one down.  If you like 69s, autos, and don't care about numbers you'll have a lot more options.

They also tend to sell very fast.  If you spot one you're interested in, don't delay, or it will be gone.  I'm not saying buy it sight unseen, but definitely call/email/have someone look at it ASAP.

I should have mentioned it is matching numbers.

I wanted a 68 RT 4 speed track pack car to match my Challenger and didn't want a car that I needed to restore as being down under it gets expensive to buy and ship everything....

So I paid a slight premium to get something that was all done....in the long run I believe it is the better option for me.

Bob, no doubt I will see you around somewhere as I see you are in Auckland and I have seen your car before....looks real sharp in black.

I'm from Berkley, I recall seeing that charger cruising around, nice ride!

30k is a reasonable starting point to look at, for a #3 condition car,  for a #2 I would expect the price to be closer to 40k.  I would hope my charger is worth mid 30s with an original body, new interior, fresh paint and new tires/wheels, and a date correct but non matching number motor.  Its been a survivor car for ages, and still hasn't been restored, but it'd be a 3 once I get the brakes fixed and start driving it again.

Thanks. Make yourself known if you see it/me out sometime, we usually go to the NZV8 Caffiene & Classics at Smales Farm on the last Sunday of the month. Keen to check out your Charger too

Real RT 4spd car. I think a builder would bring 10k or better. Then cost of building. I think for a nice car $45-50K would be a good deal.

One thing is for sure..... I LOVE THEM!!!!
