Where is the best place to mount my fuel pump relay? Directions say closest to the fuel pump. Anyone got any info on the best place my charger? I have my holley blue pump mounted above the rear axle...

Hi,

I'd mount it under the hood, somewhere where in will stay dry and away from junk thrown up from the road. One side of the relay coil will go to a good ground and the other to the run circuit from the ignition key. For the contact sides of the relay one side of course will go to the pump. The other should go to the alternator output through a fuse. You want it on the alternator side, not the battery, so that if you're using the dash ammeter it will still read correctly. The wire running to the pump should be a fairly heavy wire, say at least 14 gauge to avoid voltage drop and it should be protected from damage. Mounting the relay close to the pump, under the car is really tough on the relay in terms of getting rocks tossed at it and water related issues.

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead yesterday and mounted it under the driverside of the car. Car will never be driven in the rain.

Mounting it there gave me enough wire to go from the relay to the fuel pump (14ga) and to the engine compartment. I have the circuit braker mounted next to the starter relay...
