Isn't it true that mopar was not as good at putting the vin on the rad support and trunk in 70 and up as they were in 69?

After you move into the 70's some of the different Mopar lines put them in varying spots but they were required by law to have at least two on there.  The rad support is pretty consistent though.

i could be wrong, but i read that some super birds did not get the rad support stamp ?

I hadn't heard that but there are mistakes sometimes with those stamps so anything is possible.  I can only go by what I've been told secondhand and like I said, that rad core one was pretty consistent.  :shruggy:

Did it matter which factory built B-bodies and how the stamps were located? LA is known to have some odd/inconsistent methods.

Would factories have had differences within the same year and then year-to-year?

I heard this too.

Ok, I have the trunk stamp on my Superbird but no stamp on the Rad Support. I had a 70 charger RTSE that I purchased from the original owner. It did not have the rad support or the trunk stamp. That was the only one I ever came across until now.

I was a little freaked out that my Superbird did not have the stamp on the rad support. It has the original nose and just buy looking one can tell that it is 100% original and have documentation going back to early 80s with pictures and owners and the whole deal. Never been wrecked.

Saw the other thread and I will sleep better tonight.

Yeah I wouldn't lose sleepp over it either.  They were required to be there but these cars were mass produced as quick as possible and out the door was more important than a "secret" number stamp.

Moparheaven

Im with you, but tell that to the guy buying it from me. Even though I have documentation of owner and pics of my car going back to the early 80's, He all but said my car was not legit, or was a re-body. So, I sanded down the new paint on the deck lid to find it. I have the numbers matching motor and trans and fender tag, but he said that could all be recreated. Yeah, we all have seen the remake fender tags.  Not hard to see those aren't real.

anyway...all better. I will sleep better tonight.

Yeah, there is that unfortunate side to it.

I was an auto body man back in the 1970s and radiator supports were frequently changed in front end collisions because the radiator bolts to it, both front fenders bolts to it, the grill is attached to it, and the alignment of all of these things was critical plus the hood alignment would be off if it was not right.  We NEVER restamped them and it didn't take to hard of a wallop to bend 'em up either.
