it was reported they wrecked 28 chargers when making the new dukes movie. anyone know when the funrel is? my car wants to go.

kikgas01

No they didn`t.In fact they wasted more cars using them for the different kind of shots and they would cut them up for cameras and etc.W/B took most of then back to Cali for a sequel.Even the junk. They will atleast be reused. It`s true thet had alot of them but didn`t use them all so you need to get this straight before you say things like that.

Ghoste

Either way, they're gone and it also fuels the fire for more Charger smashing at future Dukes festivals.  Someone will make the point of it's only 20 out of 100,000 but I say it's more like the longest journey starts with one step.

hemihead

I think they should update the next movie and use 06 Chargers so Dc could unload some unsold products for a tax write - off .  :yesnod:

i went and seen the movie last night. and at the end they rolled the credits and showed bloopers of the cars being wrecked and the stunts, every time a car would get wrecked bad 99 percent of the people in the theater would cheer (my wife and i excluded). they did a good job on the movie, i just wish the dukes would trade in the chager for a chevelle     lol.     and boy was daisy hot   :yesnod:

I think I just posted this but... there's an article in one of the magazines that details every car used. Many of the cars weren't really in "restorable" shape. They reused cars for multiple jumps so they wouldn't harm as many. The ones that are still in good shape are being saved. The net effect is that Chargers are now back in the spotlight so values went up and with more interest, more repro parts will be made. Since this board has been active I've seen pictures of more than 28 cars that will never be on the road again or accomplish anything useful for the hobby. In this case I'd say that the benefits probably outweigh the downside.

Maybe now people will stop mistaking Chargers for GTOs as well.

Yeah, yeah, I know it's an older saying than dirt but it was the most applicable thing that popped in my head.

kikgas01

I remember when I had posted about Chargers getting wrecked for stupidity and had people pissed at me for it and now everyone says to stop destroying Chargers and that pisses me off.Whats the difference if I say it or somone else that argued with me about this before says it??This is crazy. At one time the people that are opposed about   me saying anything about destroning Chargers are now bitching about them getting destroyed???What ever.I can guarantee Troy remembers this thread on the old site because everyone from the general lee fan club was even mad at me but now after it is said and done they are against destroying Chargers also.Must be just because it wasn`t thier post or people just want to argue. :cussing: moderation moderation cha-cha-cha :dancinglock:

i dont think she is going to tire of it. we have acually loosened our grip on her use of the car. she drives it quite abit this summer, she probably dives it to work about 80 percent of the time now.   as for the big block,  she was pissed when we used the 400 block out of the parts car for the new motor for the roadrunner  lol,  she wants one but she doesnt ever want to spend HER money to make it happen.  im sure it willl be a 318 for a while.

I was listening to the morning radio on the way to work last week and the DJ's were talking about the movie and the car. One of 'em made a comment about the car and a listener called in to "correct" him...according to the listener the car that was used was actually a GTO Charger  ::) I couldn't believe it.

I hope they use the 2006 Charger in the next film. Someone got to buy them! I have only seen one on the road so far? Tell's you something.

41 Husk and I and the   :-[ wifes are going to see the movie in a week or so.

Funny my Charger was used on TV as a General Sort Of A Clone and I hate the TV show. In fact when I was called and asked if I had a General Lee, I told the lady I had a General Grant! ;D She was confuesed for a while. ;D

As far as the dead   :-[ Charger's. Well mine should never seen the Road Again, it broke in half from rust after. As far as resale, does not mean a thing to a real Mopar Person. Only Reason I Am Glad of the higher resale is the Aftermarket Stepped Up. Other wise I wish a Hemi anything was still only worth $500.00.

My boss asked me thursday "is your car the same I saw in the Paper today"? Told him "yes". Asked "are you selling it"? Well you know the answer! "NO"! :icon_smile_approve:

On the Blower Scoop I will have "Rat Trap"! But need's just a littel more?

On the Deck Lid thinking about the following.

General Lee was a pussy. The real Lee was a great leader, so may pass on that.

  Cooter was a pussy

If the Charger was Blue, it would be named "General Grant" but she's Viper Red.

I have to agree about using the 06 charger for the sequel.   I have seen plenty of the new chargers on the road, and they still look pretty bad.

If 28 cars were destroyed during filming, doesn't that just raise the value of yours if they keep making movies??

Ghoste

It sure does.  Doesn't it just make you wish that they'd destroy every single one in the whole world for cheap video thirlls except for one and then it'd be worth billions.  Now whose car gets to be the one?

Pick me, pick me!

KMPX2

This is one big reason not to see the movie

General Ryan

What needs to be done is, have that company stamping out real steel crate bodies of the 69 Camaro and the whatever year Mustang and soon to be released sometime 70 or 71 Cuda, they should stamp out 69 Chargers so the movie companies can buy them up and destroy them instead of the real deal cars!

Didn't I read somewhere that the cars they used to wreck or cut up were cars bought from Hlplag?  Whatever their name is?

Yes you did. That was said many times in this web site and the old one. They for the most part were junk to start with.

i did buy one of the wrecked chargers. you see it in the ending credits/bloopers.. one of it's main jumps anyway. it's the interstate jump car where it lands then careens to the right and hits the guardrail. yep that's in my backyard. trust me, though it had a good frame, this car was toast. and i also sold them 2 of the 28 they used.. just so this gets put to rest, my 2 were stripped of almost anything useable, they did not roll, and had no front clip even on one. they had to be rollbacked onto a flatbed. they were cars that if listed on here.. would not have brought $500. not all were this bad, but at least these 2 had one last moment of glory. all the bitching of destroying good cars is stupid, it didn't happen. these cars were almost all junk, and there are plenty of cars in this condition still around that no one on this board or on ebay even.. wants to fool with. so just chill out about the destroying of good chargers already.. i agree it shouldn't be done.. BUT they aren't good cars, and i don't think anyone would have been standing in line to put 10 gallons of bondo on it to make it their daily driver..

WOW!

10 gallons of bondo might not be that bad ::)

For me, the issue isn't so much wrecking the car (although I still despise it), it's showing the wreck.  I realize they were using mostly junk cars for this film, but the problem happens when thousands of morons watch it and think it's a great idea.  This inspires them to happily lay down their money to see it done live.  It keeps happening and happening and the Charger pile goes down and down.  Junk cars or not, I've seen some amazing cars brought back from the dead.
The one guy who sent a bunch of cars to the film company for them to use, sent them a couple that were pretty nice.  As I understand was so nice the film company wouldn't use it.  Congratulations to them for having a sense of preservation but you should be able to see my point that the owner of the car thought it'd be great to send them a good car to destroy.  Not everyone will have that sense of preservation and the next Wal-Mart Grand Opening in downtown Podunk may be more than happy to jump his good car for a cheap thrill.

bull

As much as I hate to see Chargers being destroyed I have to think the show and movie are responsible for saving more cars than anything. There are very few people who are dumb enough to think you can jump a '69 Charger over a river without totaling it and breaking your neck in the process, so I find it hard to believe anyone is going to purposely destroy something they've had to pay $5,000-$10,000 to purchase. What is does is create more interest in the car so more people are looking for them, more of them are being pulled out of fields and barns to restore, and more of the nice Chargers are selling for more money. It may seem odd that a show that glorifies reckless driving and the destruction of Chargers could result in the opposite effect in reality but that's what has happened.

kikgas01

Hey trav I thought your car was launched more than once??

charger69

actually its in the august edition of Hotrod Mag, they went throught 26 chargers in teh making of the Dukes of Hazzard Movie, Fourteen '69 Chargers, Eight '68 Chargers, and Four 70's

can't argue with that, i totally agree.. the jumping for every little dukes event is long past the "out of hand" stage. it's not even cool anymore..
wakko, you are right, it made 3 jumps, first was wearing pre cooter paint(it jumped the river at the beginning), then the interstate jump, the 3rd was a huge practice jump for the final cable pulled jump in fromt of the courthouse.. this jump is not seen on screen. i personally recorded it on video though

Bull, I find your point logical and I hadn't really thought of it that way before.  But, even though your argument makes sense, I still can't warm to the idea of smashing them for Hollywierd.
