I have a 74 dodge charger 440 and want to give it a bit more grunt.
Anyone put a turbo system on their engine? Or possibly a super charger?
Make any difference in performance?
Im looking fo a street ride.
Anyone know where I can find Turbo or supercharger complete kits?

brakes, suspension, then power.....if those can hold up to your power I say  a blower even if they are not efficiant like modern stuff  :icon_smile_big:

sounds like a interesting build your planning    :yesnod: :2thumbs:
IMO , would go for a pro charger !! keep it all under a stock hood line  ,  yes turbos can make awesome power too , but create soo much heat  under the hood & can cause other problems ,

Yeah I only want it to look Stock standard.
I want something that has great power as well as looks.
Too Many snotty nose kids with imports around my way thinking they are all fast and furious.
Give me muscle anyday.
Were would be the best place to by a pro charger?

i'm not sure on the best place to buy , & advice on what you need , think a couple of guys on here have them ,

think the best plan would be swapping to a EFi set up to ,
then if your going to use the new found power  , every thing else needs to be upgraded to take the power & or make it live

Tantop,
Any suggestions to boost the power on the old 440?
WHat are simple power boosting ways to enhance the old motor? Pistons,Cam,Bore out the block?
Has anyone done mods and what were they and what sort of gains did they achieve?

Do a search. Theres a wizard here who got 449 hp from a cast crank turd 440 with bolt ons.
Top of the page...proven combos

i'm far from a expert ! would listen to good mopar only  engine builders & the engine guys on here , they know more than I ever will .
something the lines of this as follows  if I was  building a 440 with a procharger or similar  in a stock OEM two bolt block  , max of  or 8:1 compression , max ported iron 452 or 906 heads ,  yes the aluminium heads are awesome & more often than not , out the box flow better than the best worked OEM casting  could dream of ! but prefer  iron for various reasons . &  the power I would be aiming for would not need the extra flow of aftermarket heads :scratchchin:
don't need to go mad with the cam on a blown motor for the street , prolly go with slightly  hotter than stock  magnum hp grind  , & can still make good power ( not insane amounts )   with a blower , & will still have good slow speed operation & idle of a stock motor !
for me  gone are the days  with a radical cam etc , with a tight or looseish converter ,&  thousand to 12 hundred  idle speeds , driving two feet using the brake as a clutch sort of thing in traffic &  tight parking situations  , when I was younger never bother me , guess i'm getting old  ,  :'( :P :yesnod:
nother  supercharger company blow

as for  running a 440 with carb only  , there is good info  in the proven motor combo thread  as cooter said !!  lots of knowledgeable engine guys  ,  there are loads of things to consider when building a motor  ,  need to factor in  trans , converter , rear gears ,  axle , all got to work together  , &   brakes  etc  ,  where most of your driving is going to take place ,  sad to say  most  sorted ricers with their turbos & 5 speed transmissions & low gearing  , traction control & four wheel drive etc  &  weighing half ( well not quite but you get the idea )  of what our chargers do  , will show  many a muscle car that's built mainly for the street use the fastest way down the quarter mile , power to weight ,   start building  440 or stroker   to try &  get a  proper street  driven 4000 + lbs   mopar  down the  quarter in less than 11 .5 seconds  ,  imo need to build a pretty radical 440 to do it all on the motor  , will be no fun on the street really & in traffic ,
think of gone off track a little  , anyways just my  thinking on this    :Twocents: :scratchchin: :P
