get what you want.....dont worry about what others say  :icon_smile_big:

I run 20x10 in the rear I get so much flack from older dudes saying how they ran 14inch rims with drum backs all around back in the day and they are better than all disc brakes etc....

None of the above, but I am not really into the 14"-15" old school look.

This, or Vectors look okay as long as the car isn't orange.

I've hated Cragars forever, maybe I just see too many jacked up Novas/Chevelles/Camaros with them.

Orange or not Vectors just make the look for the car, or orginal Magnum 500's with red line tires look awesome!

Thank you!  Although someone else told me that too, but I didn't really get it; why is the prominence of the horizontal body line so important?  How is the quality of the bodywork defined by that horizontal body line?

im into the chrome wheels. voted for the cragars. its just what i like. but the fun part of this obsession is that everyone has their own preference which makes the car shows more fun. it would be boring to get to a show and see 15 69 dodge chargers all the same color and the same wheels and tires on them. build your charger so that you are enjoying it. i love my wheels and tires. i love my paint color. i feel great when im driving through town and people are gawking. :2thumbs:

I got Cragers on my 70....not a real fan of them, but I got them back in the 90's for basically free..which is what I could afford back then.....if I had a choice for a do-over...I would have gone with Torque-thrust style

Because it is very easy to lose, diminish, distort, or otherwise ruin those subtle factory body lines in the side panels of a second-generation Charger when filling and sanding the body in preparation for paint.

As for wheels, I like Vectors the best, but only in 14x7 and 15x7 sizes, especially 15x7.

Cooter

Any wheel in the 15-16" range from the period works. I prefer Cragars, Centerline auto drag, or slott mags (Ansen Sprint).

actually I like yours , when I got my rolling shell, the first thing that caught my eye was the American five lot alloys on her 10's on the back and 8's on the front , but 14 inch and a good range of tyres for that size rim , also were multi fit lug nuts , a no no over here, but would have liked to use them, also fat Firestone polyglass tyres on them , pity they were dry rotted, but a good indication of how long the car was of the road and hidden away stored

Dino and Myk's rims FTW!
:iagree:

I like the 14-15" rims on Chargers but, if I were to do a 2nd gen myself, I'd like something similar to theirs.

Now since I had to choose from that list I voted for magnums!

Dino

The MB old school wheel, which is what Myk and I run, is also available in 15" in both polished/grey as we have, or all chrome.

I love my wheels and am glad I got them!

I like the look of vectors although the sheer amount of GL's out there took away its uniqueness.  Still a nice looking wheel.  Always loved Cragar SS but not all chrome, I don't like any wheel in all chrome.  The newer magnums are very nice but again, lots out there with that combo.

Sorry on the no pics , I have given up trying to post them, can't figure out how to resize and rename on an I pad.

Results were shocking ! Magnums killed it with Cragars in second (way behind). Only 1 vote for the keystones which I love on these cars. Crazy. Honestly I would go with the keystones but I HATE mag lug nuts, same on the Cragars. I'm gona go with the steels and dog dishes with red lines are on the way.

If the Vectors or the Western Turbines that I used to have were available in 17 or 18 inch sizes I may have considered them as well.  As I see it the only wheels that have struck as being "right" for our cars are American Racing's TTD, 200S, and the MB's that we roll on.

Of course you would, they are all very similar in appearance and what you have on your car.
Wheels are somewhat akin to tattoos, they are a very personal choice and what some like others may not.

The OP's favorite is Keystones, but they happen to be at the bottom of the voting pile. Others apparently don't like them.
Some say nothing larger than a 15", others go as high as 22". Some don't like all-chrome.
Many members here are not a fan of donks (myself included), but given the huge donk movement out there some people are obviously drawn to them for some strange reason.  :eek2:

Bottom line is pick whatever makes you happy.

Hater, that looks like something a Klingon would carry into battle! Yuck on any Mopar!

My self here is my order if the Charger is pretty much stock.

1 Magnum Wheels but wider than stock.

2 Road Wheels. Not as nice as Magnum's but look good. My 69 Charger came with them.  :coolgleamA:

3 Cragar SS 5 spoke.  :2thumbs:

When my 69 Charger R/T (R/T Stood For Rusted Trash when I first got her) painted Plum Crazy with the Road Wheels seldom got a look?  :shruggy: Installed a set of Cragar SS people started to stare?  :scratchchin:

While I have seen a few 16 wheels that did not make me instantly want to blow chucks, I prefer 14 and 15 inch rims.

I have to say the results surprise me.  I would have guessed Cragar and Keystone as neck and neck for first with Magnums hot behind but definitely second.

The choice really is up to you. My opinion? The choices are all straight out of the 70s. If you enjoy sticking with the old school look, so be it. I find 14 and 15 inch setups extremely boring unless the car is a rare restoration to stock specs. Our cars can be made to corner as well as drag race. Even casual street cruising can test the stock skinny tires and wheels.  The car will never reach its full performance potential with a small diameter setup.

Lord Warlock

I voted magnums, but mine really aren't magnums, they are 17 inch AR500's which look a lot like a chrome lip magnum 500.  but are much wider than the stock wheels were.  17x11s in back, 17x8s in front.

My dd car has cragar style Heritage wheels which look nice enough, but if I could put magnums on that car I would.

You didn't list slot mags, my charger wore 15 inch ET Slots for most of its life, and I did like the loks of slot mags on the charger, but magnum style rims look sooooo much better.  I also like keystone classics, but they are only available in the smaller rim sizes.
69 RT/SE Y3 cream yellow w/tan vinyl top and black r/t stripe. non matching 440/375, 3:23, Column shift auto w/buddy seat, tan interior, am/fm w/fr to back fade, Now wears 17" magnum 500 rims and Nitto tires. Fresh repaint, new interior, new wheels and tires.

I do like the old school. That's part of a charger. If I wanted new school with big rims I'd be driving a new charger or challenger. Not me, not my car.

If I have to pick from the list, then Magnums.

Lord Warlock

The AR500 is essentially a magnum 500, but they are available in 15-17 inch sizes, only difference is that they are chromed around the lip and don't use trim rings or have brushed aluminum like the original magnum500s did.  I have a set of 14 inch magnums but they aren't near large enough in my opinion.  Wish I could take a side pic of the AR500s installed, but I have a second car sitting next to it right now that isn't running so isn't easy to move out of the way.  I think they look great on the old charger, first new set of wheels its had since I bought it.  (first set of new tires in 30 years)

you be surprised what old timers say about how they bought these cars back in day and claim that all drum brakes are better than disc brakes on any modern car!!!!!  Same with wheels...no need to get bigger than 14inch rims they dont improve performance.....

Crazy things people say......

nvrbdn

i think everyone agrees that newer technology is better than the old suspensions. mine is upgraded. i think everyone agrees that disc brakes are better than drum. and if i wanted to do 80 on an entrance ramp, the old suspension and smaller tires and shocks etc.. arent near as good. pro touring is much better handling than stock 60's technology. larger disc brakes are better than small disc, or drum. but just because 18" wheels will allow larger brakes, that doesnt mean we should all go get them.guys like to say how we just dont get it because we dont want to put this stuff on our cars. truth is, we just dont like the look of the large wheels with no rubber. call it old school, call it stuborn. you will find that the guys who have changed are just as strong against the small wheel look as the guys are that dont like the large wheels.

 thats just my feelings. :shruggy:

Being a mechanic I work on and drive cars all the time with big and small rims. Big rims with low pro tires ride like crap, follow all the groves in the road, cause pre-mature wear to suspension parts and brakes. And most of the ones I see are cheap and crappy. I'm not saying...... Just saying.
